Shellac Nails

Anyone here wears this?

Thinking of getting the treatment done to my nails since my nails have become too soft thereby causing them to break too frequently.

Would like some feedback pls. Or if ya'll have any other ideas of what I could do so my nails would look nicer, I'd 'preciate it...

I read all three threads, but need clarification: were you happy with shellac system? Couldn't quite figure if it was included in the other thread of things you'd never do again.

And Peasie, I believe you said neva again to Shellac? Wanna expand on that?

I was happy without having to worry about polish peeling and no breakage while I had them. I got bored with the constant maintenance required and since I have issues with where I spend my dollars, I ended not doing it anymore.

I had them done a couple times. Both times were for vacations. I can't see myself getting them done on a regular.
Although they lasted longer than a traditional manicure, I still had peeling after about one week. I mention the week time frame because the advertisement is that it should last two weeks. Maybe because I have stubby nails.....

Other reason I wouldn't keep them on a regular, they sand down your regular nail. Not as much as with tips, but doing my nails every week or so, eventually I figure the long term effect would not be what I was hoping for.

I would do it again on my next vacation. I like having my nails done up while on holiday.

For the record, my normal nail procedure is manicure without any polish. I don't even get clear polish.

Mine too. Buffed to their own natural shine. But for a while now they've been looking quite sad, so I wanted to fix em up a bit...

Like yourself, I don't like the idea of my nails been sanded down either...

Nunya, it made my nails feel like I had house paint with epoxy stuck on them. I could feel my nails being suppressed. My finger nails are soft and I wasn't used to polish so the shellac felt like hell. Yes, that dramatic

I had them done when I went on a short beach vacation. They held up well but as soon as I got home I wanted to remove the stiffness on my nails. That experience was awful. The manicurist said I should have come in to her shop for that.

Not doing that again.

Uh oh... That's how I felt when I allowed my friend to practice on me (she did a very amateurish acrylic job - they were about a 1/4in thick and not shaped, cuz she was tired and fell asleep. I had to go to work with that mess on my fingers the next day) I have never had an acrylic mani again. I can still remember feeling like my nails, and by extension, my fingers, were trapped. And this was over 15 years ago...

Asking around, everyone who's had the shellac treatment, says it's much gentler than getting acrylics. But thinking back to that one day (and night) of hell, I think I'm gonna pass...



I just need something to strengthen my nails that does not involve sanding...

Keep them manicured with no polish. Stimulate the cuticle by applying an oil of your choice. I use pure Jamaican castor oil.

I wish I had nicer shaped hands and nails but just keeping them neat and polish-free will have to do.

Polish goes on toes in Summer or when traveling to sandal-wearing places. No polish on them now - they also get castor oiled - for the winter as my toe nails need to breathe

So this is the same as gel polish? When I got the gel manicure they did not file my nails down. Would do again for vacation

I have seen the at-home kits sold online. I think they ranged between $80-100 USD. That was maybe two years ago.

I've had Shellac done on my nails a few times. Better than acrylic, as allows your nails to breathe. However, like many here, I don't like the sanding down of my nails. Also the upkeep is too much for me - getting it redone as it grows out every couple of weeks is a chore, especially here in Saudi where a good manicurist is almost non exsistent.

I have pretty strong nails, but back in the day when I was prignent, my nails fell apart. I used Sally Hansen Hard As Nails and my nails thrived with it. I don't know how to add pics here, but, this is what I used

what I am into now is keeping them oiled and buffed. Same for the toes but I may polish them in the summerbut for now the natural look rocks.
