OOnuu bear wid mi if mi ask a question that's been previously askeded. Seeing as how I wasn't deh here, I have a valid excuse.

For sisters living across the pond, how the heck do you wear your hair?

So far, every bady mi ask, say eida one of chree tings: locs, braids, or natural?

Oh yeah, and a couple say 'tie head'...

From what I have seen here - up north, most wear their hairs in plaits or natural and the younger generation seem to wear weaves - sort of like what you would see on videos. The locks are worn mostly in London from what I see.

My sisters wear plaits.

You know, I don't know if weaves frizz with damp weather???? Can anyone shed some light on this?

What about the style below? Someone called me bawling bout she had her hair done like this and then went out and came with with a fluffy afro...

The moisture over here wreaks havoc on our hair! Mine is natural, but I can do lot with it, I empty half a can of mousse, and leave it curly (in jamaica we say frizzy), I sometimes braid it in one or two when it's wet outside - (i have to be neatly groomed for my job, as I wear suits every day)Or twist it up in chignon, with the ends sticking out. I play around with the color though, and I straighten it in the summer.

When I used to fry my hair, the styles never stayed for long. My hair is thin so that would be the major reason, the other was the weather.

Weaves are very popular over this side along with locks and twists (in London, anyway) so I guess those are the main ways of coping with the UK weather. Hair straightening isn't going away though so I guess those women are happy to put up with the occasional frizz.

I've now been shaving mine for the past 12 years and it's nice to see a few more women 'in the club' [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Me, I am am natural, but I am of mixed origin, and my hair is very versatile, tiday, it plait in one from my crown to my nape.

Well we have a wide variety of tieheads you could use. Try it [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] Maintaining the processed hair isn't difficult. Would just take a little more time than you currently used to I guess. You planning on taking a trip over this side?

My hair is relaxed. Hair salon every two weeks and I'm good to go...

The weather does reek havoc on our hair though. A friend of mine was in the US for 6 months and had her hair taken care of whilst there - she wore it pressed. She came back with a head full of hair. It was all gone in two weeks.

Also my daughter lived in Jamaica for two years. Her hair was relaxed. She returned to the UK with her hair in the middle of her back - it was thick and healthy and a beautiful naturally streaked by the sun all kinds of browns and golds. Her hair was peel awf within two weeks. She has been back 8 years now and her hair has never returned to that glorious mane. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

((UKBL)) is it the weather exactly or possibly the water?? I did notice at the time when I was there that the water was not kind to my hair - not so much the weather -as the weather was identical to here.

SisD, that could be a reason . I know London is in a hard water area whilst Birmingham water is softer. Not sure about other areas of the UK.

SistaD - - the weather in the UK being unkind is a complaint you will hear from many women of African descent. I have seldom heard the same issues stated by women who are not of direct African descent so I do believe it is the weather as many have even reverted to using filtered water to wash their hairs.
