well if yuh bawn up here yuh might not know nothing bout it.

dem used to have a special cap, and put on the conditioner/hot oil and everybaddy did used to steam

There might be a table of water levels to maintain depending on what you are doing. Some hair treatments require more heat and less steam, where others require more steam and less heat.

I am still confused...how is it any different than putting a plastic bag on your head and sitting under a regular dryer?

That is what I do weekly so why the additional investment in a steamer?

from what i understand no plastic cap is neccessary and is actually a hindrance when using a steamer..

i think the difference between the 2 methods is dry heat as opposed to moist heat....dem seh de moist heat penetrates the hair shaft better..

no i did not start getting my hair done until after I moved to the states...and much begging and bawling..


not sure if if heating cap heat and dryer heat is the same..but i used to deep condition with a plastic cap and am heating cap...my dermatologist did not think that was a good thing for my already dry hair...

i'm super excited to try the steamer..will let you guys know how it works..

not sure if this answers your question..but I would put on my conditioner...place a plastic cap on..then the heating cap..

the conditioner was the only source of moisture..with the steamer moisture is actually been added by the machine

I mention this because when my scalp was damaged from radiation treatment, I started going to the salon to have my scalp massaged. Come to think of it, that is what turned my hair and scalp around

my scalp was this dry, flaky, bleeding mess back then. And the skin was tough and hard so my hair had a hard time growing. The massages with oils, not only loosened my scalp making the skin soft and pink again, but got the roots to breathe and thus my hair began to grow like it normally did.

Nothing I did for the year and a half prior helped at all until I started this. No deep conditioning, no nothing helped before.

Just in case it may help you as well, I thought I would mention it.

thanx, Nylah..i do my hair myself...i'll try to focus more on the massage part..i know it does a lot for circulation..but i don't spend that much time on it..think i even have a scalp massage tingamajig around here some where..

How long and often should it be used?

Generally people steam there hair no more than 2 times in a week for about 20 to 30 minutes to get the full benefit from it. Some sessions can go over and hour for more damaged hair.

After your hair steamer treatment you hair will feel a little heavier and full of moisture, during this time handle your hair with care , wait till your hair and scalp have cooled down until styling.

Damaged Hair - Increase Temperature Decrease Steam if possible

Chemicals or Color Treatment - Skip cooling step
