Just like someone who's dyed their hair, they don't want their natural colour showing...
So they go for touch ups...
Black people were straightening their hair long before they met white people who had naturally straight hair. For these black folk, straightening their hair was no indication of deeper psychological issues.
They recognised the awesome diversity and complexity of their hair and they revelled in it... in trying out something new...
If someone now feels that they must wear their hair straight, it should be taken with the same grace of someone who feels they must wear their hair low, locked, plaited etc.
