I'm the guest of someone who will be hosting a huge gala in early November. Heads of states will be there It look like mi haffi wear a gown. I don't own one

I have good legs that I like to show off caw mi waan direct di focus from my other body faults

Dis is what I am thinking: Stella McCartney about $1,400.

Or mi can get weh wid di ubiquitous likkle black dress?

I do not like that dress....I am not a fashionista so you can take it for what its worth. You can never go wrong with black in my opinion, but I am sure there are lots of gowns in colors, with a slit or two to show off those legs!

I like the first one. You can wear a shorter cocktail style dress to a formal affair, and that one has style, panache, and looks like it is made from a good high quality fabric.

What exactly does the invitation say? "Black tie"?

If you want to blend in or stay in the background then go with black. If you want to stand out then go with a color that's good for you (red is good for me) or something with some sparkle to it.

The only problem with the red dress is it looks like it will be a pain to get seated attractively - great for standing, bad for sitting. I think a similar styled long dress with a high split over one thigh and perhaps an ornate brooch pinned right above the split would look awesome.

Bridal shops usually have a great selection of evening gowns and not just things for brides and ugly bridesmaid dresses. I have not been above shopping at a place that sells prom gowns, but the styles have gotten a little too ummm .... well I think 80s Madonna-ish is the word I'm looking for. And that style could never be mistaken for elegant.
