SHE WAS LAVISH, extravagant, and flamboyant, so family members of murdered dancehall icon, Christine Hewitt, say her funeral will be exactly that.
From chariots to limousines, the last day (or days) of Hewitt will be a testimony to her personality and way of life. In accordance with her public lifestyle, the funeral has been deemed a public affair.
UNIQUE DRESS CODE
The funeral will be held tomorrow, at 12:30 p.m., at the elegant Holy Trinity Cathedral, located at 1 George Headley Drive off North Street. Family members insist that the event will be a celebration of Hewitt's life, and not a mourning.
As such, there will be a unique dress code of bright colours only. "We are celebrating the passing of our beloved family member, so we don't want any black or dull colours, only bright colours ... You can look out for my outfit, 'cause my shoes and my handbag will be blinging," said Christine's sister, Dacia 'Peggy' Hewitt.
The family informed THE WEEKEND STAR that although she had not committed to the denomination, Hewitt had most closely embraced the Catholic faith, and as such, she would be given a Catholic burial.
As expected, the funeral services will be provided by Brite Lite funeral services, who are renown for covering many high-profile funerals, such as those of William 'Willie Haggard' Moore, and late dancehall icon Gerald 'Bogle' Levy.
Inspired by Hewitt's love for gardens, the final resting vessel for the late dancehall personality will be adorned with nature scenes and floral designs, ranging from yellow daffodils, to pink roses. The 12-gauge steel casket will be made air tight to ensure its constant closure, as given the manner of her death, (severely burned), Hewitt's body will not be displayed.
"Christine's body is intact and it will be in the casket, but due to the severity of the burns, she will not be displayed. However, there will be a host of photographs, banners, stickers, pins, and even floral portraits to compensate," said Brite Lite's C.E.O. Tommy Thompson.
After the services (pending police permissions), the casket will be chariot driven, through Cross Roads, Half-Way Tree, Molynes Road, Washington Boulevard, and finally to Dovecot, where the body will be laid to rest.
