is the father way off in why he is making the decision....is he putting the money making value of the child ahead of teaching the child that society has rules etc
Some schools are willing to give and take if you are a star. But deejay Dadda's is not about to be given any preferential treatment. His school has ordered that he either cut his hair or leave.
Dadda, whose real name is Amir Fyffe, attended the Epworth All-Age School in St. Ann, but was recently told that he would not be allowed to continue at the school with his hair so long.
"Wi haffi guh find a new school fi him (Dadda), cause dem did a guh tek him back but dem a seh him would a haffi trim but tru di image weh mi done a promote him unda already, it would a hard fi change dat, suh it look like a one private school wi haffi guh sen him," his father, Edgar Fyffe told The Star in an interview.
However, the Principal of Epworth All-Age, Mr. Meredith, told The Star that no one forced Dadda to leave, but that the school only made its stance clear.
"The school is affiliated with the Methodist Church but the problem is that the promoter of the young man wants him to grow his hair and that would be a part of his stage business. But with him coming with this heavy hair, people in the community are saying that he is getting preferential treatment while all the other boys here are properly groomed," Mr. Meredith said.
Meredith says, "The whole situation is on hold right now but I don't see them sending him back. But his father had said he would try to either work something out with the promoter or cut his (Dadda's) hair and send him back."
However, Fyffe says he enrolled Dadda in a new school this week because he is not about to cut his hair or go against the wishes of those responsible for promoting him.
"Di man dem weh a deal wid Dadda a some Rastafari from Canada an dem a seh a vision dem get seh Dadda fi grow him hair. But mi a place him in a new school cause I nuh deh pon dat (cutting his hair), suh him start a new school (Exchange All-Age) last Tuesday. Rasta guh dah school yah weh leggo all dem hair, but mi still mek him wear a tam," Fyffe said.
Dadda is known for songs like Who Badda and was recently featured in a video medley in the fight against crime and violence affecting youths.
