Re: Project Runway
yes MGee -- that whole 'story' about 'only learn to sew 4 months ago' is misleading and was done for P.R. She may not have had the actual 'technical' skill, but she already spent years in the USA, has a degree from Parsons, (not fashion design, but graphic design, so she HAS studied design for years already) - has had a successful clothing line for three years already, and another successful line of lingerie - she's nowhere near the little newbie she made herself out to be.
so i feel her entire presentation of herself was manipulating the truth to make it look a way. her family is very wealthy and she can really do anything she wants to do with full financial backative -- she didn't need the prize money to start her own line... she's already done that..... to me it seems like Project Runway was just part of her P.R. "machine"......
and although i did love her dresses and i'd wear every one a them - technically, i don't think her collection deserved the win. every one same neckline, same caftan style - NO construction skills, she didn't do ANY 'design' -- she just threw something together at the last minute, and the others really worked for it. Her collection had nothing detailed or properly finished - she doesn't have anywhere near the skills exhibited by the others. On all the PR blogs ppl's opinion is the judges bent all the rules cause they wanted to "push" her to win.... she never shoulda made into the final with those two crappy gold things she showed.... yet the judges pushed her through AND then 'miraculously' gave another 500. at the end. Popular opinion is that the judges did all that to make sure she had nuff money to make SOMETHING decent at the end cause they WANTED to make her win. further, there was another designer couple years ago name Uli, who did the SAME thing - 'luxe beachwear", and she had serious skills, her clothes were beautifully designed and well-constructed - and the judges still skewered her for being a "one-note", told her "nubaddy nah want beachwear is pretty but it's not fashion forward" show us someting ELSE that you can do - and auf'd her. And her clothes were the exact same kinda stuff Anya made, but MUCH better technically. So now all of a sudden this is something new and exciting? nah man, I don't buy it at all.
conversely, I couldn't stand the way they portrayed Josh's personality on the show but based upon the true 'design' & innovation, the workmanship & construction he put into his collection, I think he should have won. he's the one who grew most as a designer, he improved so much, and he would have produced a line of clothing based upon his considerable skills -- not just cause he can pick pretty fabrics. At first I was all for Viktor until he messed up with having two collections in one, i actually gree with the judges on that one - his clothes were unbeLEIVably gorgeous, but the lack of cohesiveness messed him up; he didn't show "one" connected collection. but still - either half of his collection was light-years ahead of Anya's work.
But both Josh and Viktor put their lifeblood into this - and risked every penny they had to do it - whereas for Anya it was just one more P.R. move to increase her fame. imho Josh wasn't kidding when he talk bout 'beauty queen'.... between her being Miss TnT, and the whole scandal with the sex tape..... AND u know she set up a whole "robo" tweet thing so the TnT fans could vote for her multiple times in the fan favorite contest -- i feel her whole approach was just slimy, and imho she played the whole "newbie" thing up just for a false 'wow' factor, and increase her popularity, and it's just not true. she's just the Kim Kardashian of project runway if ya ask me.
So while she may not have actually 'cheated', i no think that's the spirit of the game and i don't think she deserved the win. imho the others were true competitors who truly WANTED this, and worked for it - in the spirit it was intended - and she's just a publicity hound with a good eye.
