you know i think i reacted from a more gut leve. si mi sista is di one gifted wid di "good hair" from we coolie grandmodda. soh mi memba when shi bout 18 and mi big hero wid har stomaceous hair and shi platting mi own weh two finga can't even quinge dem togedda, shi use to chap mi inna mi hed plenty plenty wid dat comb. god forbid wen wi aunty use to tell har fi hot comb mi "pig head" when wi going weddings. is a surprise mi still have any ears, but less scalp tissue di amount a vengence bun mi get fi noh siddung still.

I have cremed and not cremed. Had various lengths as well.. Presently mi just barely relax ie to tek de edge off so when mi decide fi wear ie out ie noh go too puffy.

There is a girl who goes to my sons school. Father Ghanian mother is caucasian american but the girl hair is definitely on the African side.. The mother decide fi creme her hair cause she couldnt manage it no more. I didnt see thefamily for a year and then one of the 1st things she said to me (cause we did discuss it and mi did seh when she bout 14 and the mother agreed cause dat is when she did 1st perm her hair) is dat she did did perm her hair and hope mi noh mind [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif[/img]

Despite the fact that the majority of black women in N. America and parts of Europe wear processed and/or synthetic hair, I have yet to hear of a higher incidence of cancer among this group. Black women are becoming HIV positive at a greater rate than the rest of the population, but that isn't due to relaxers.

However It does seem unhealthy for the collective self esteem when the vast majority of black women to choose to wear their hair differently to its original state. Imagine if 90% of white women were getting silicone injections in their lips, or 92% of white men were having their buttocks augmented? To me that is the equivalent of what we do to ourselves with this hair business.

But don't yuh think if most of them could afford the silicone injections they would get it...

For those of us who understand the implications, lead by example. Also if young girls started seeing more performers and such with natural hair that would help. Other than that, not much to do really. So until Beyoncé, et. al. give up the lace-front wigs I think we're stuck with the status quo.
