But the black owned (african) BSS in my city is up in the part of the city that I will not take bus to and the man wont carry me...alright to be honest I wont exit a vehicle in that neighbourhood

So what are you driving for 'Star?

To shop at stores that sell products that are geared towards people of African descent?

Shop at stores that are owned/managed by people of African descent and they sell products that are made for people of African descent?

If it's stores for hair care products, I just shop where it is available and affordable. I do not think there are any hair care products stores in my neighbourhood that are owned by people of African descent... so far, the few that I've seen have Korean people working in the stores.

There are black-owned businesses that I've used in the past but none are businesses that sells hair products.

To break the monopoly that Koreans/Asians have over this industry-that is &quot;beauty supply&quot; stores. As long as the store is black owned it can sell any kinda hair product that the customers demand, but hopefully some products made by black people as well.

Same with the fruit/vegetable stores here. (although I will say that back in the 90s I went to a black owned one in Brooklyn and the produce looked like it did travel from the sahara as opposed to 2 states over, fruits shrivel and mash up)

What the Korean/Asians do is they use a cooperative model. They pool resources together to buy the fruit /products in deep discounts and then share it amongst themselves. This way they can undercut other businesses by offering lower prices. We are a people driven by our pocket rather than our politics and willingness to pay a higher price in the short term losing the benefit of long term business ownership by blacks for other blacks.

There is a balance to this though because will the business owner who is black have the same spirit of supporting the black community or will he/she take the money out of the community?

Btw, I found a black-owned beauty supply store in East Saint Louis and drove over there yesterday. They didn't have what I was looking for but I got some other things there. I actually felt like I was in a Hollywood movie set... ala &quot;Barbershop&quot; type of scene with the hustler coming in with his plastic bag of goods selling. It was funny. Also good to shop at a black owned business place. I'll go back there again.

I'm glad you had a positive experience.

Oftentimes people say they are not treated well in black-owned businesses. While it may be true, I wonder if there isn't a double standard? For example we accept bad treatment from whites &amp; Asians that we would never tolerate from a black person.
