State the relationship of the chemicals to something else but there are enough black women who have never put any chemical in them hair for this claim to have substance. I have never relaxed my hair dont plan to and if someone should ask me MY OPINION I would tell them to leave their hair the way God made them. This thread is not about possible negative effects of relaxing one's hair but linking it to fibroids which is what I am addressing. I address each issue on their own merit and this time the piece does not have much if any substance a mere coincidence. <span style="font-weight: bold">There is more valid research out there seeking to understand what causes fibroids and those I will willingly support as I know what suffering these can cause and this article trivializes a serious problem black women have to deal with IMHO.</span>

If someone is anti-relaxing or other chemicals in a black woman's hair say so on your own.

The British star, 39, <span style="font-weight: bold">said she stopped using chemical relaxers typically used by black women to straighten their locks after seeing comic Chris Rock's documentary film Good Hair.</span>

The movie enlightened her to the fact that the products contain enough of the corrosive substance Lye - more commonly known as caustic soda - to dissolve a Coke can.

She added: '<span style="font-weight: bold">The stigma with some black women seems to be that &quot;nappy hair&quot; (natural afro hair) is almost as bad as loo roll trailing from your shoe.</span>



'I've always let my daughter’s hair be wild and scruffy... when they were papped in the States I had remarks about how I don’t take care of their hair. T<span style="font-weight: bold">he truth is I choose to keep it that way.</span>

I have a friend who is home for 3 months now from surgery to remove a 7 lb fibroid .. She has been wearing locks/twist and chemical free for 13 years. I so agree with you about the lack of substance here

the article also shows viola davis...she redeemed herself at the oscars in my eyes...

because at the golden globes she made a statement about how people think she's sexy now but if they saw her at home with her cornrows they wouldn't think so...
i was appalled at that statement---- but after the oscars we are good now ...
