Did you see the movie Malcolm X? There are a couple of scenes in there where he is doing it. I can't find the scenes from the original movie but one of them is re-acted here by some young actors.

The one thing I can't stomach is dishonest people who don't quote others accurately. I don't mean you blugiant. I realize you are just repeating barefaced that you were told.

Nope I never used or even inferred the word Black. I said that James Brown looked greasy and lowdown in that nasty looking conk. I stand by that and anybody who doesn't like that can kiss my grits. A troot me a talk and you know it.

Yes he was talented Yes he worked hard. Yes he sang I'm Black and I'm proud during the Black power era and sported a 'fro briefly.



This may have been more to sell records than anything based on the fact that he reverted to the conk and continued to wear it LONG after most Black males in America. He definitely had a preference for White women based on the women he married.

I respect him as an artist and there is no taking his talent away from him as evidenced by his first performance for a mainstream integrated audience and one of his last performances:

His body of work is amazing. He could dance, he could sing and he threw everything he had into his performances. He made some some really questionable personal choices w.r.t. hair and women. Definitely he was Black but he seemed to have issues with it.

Other than that, I have nothing further to say or discuss about James Brown and im conk. I have stated and clarified my opinion NUMEROUS times and oo noh like it can bite it.

Actually the original topic was before 2007. It was resurrected in 2007 due to remarks that were made to resurrect the issue about my description of James Brown's conk. Not sure where the original thread is.

Company Man was Brent Wade, a Black man who wrote about the negative experiences he had in corporate America. He included a number of stories about his experiences growing up and in the corporate world that had a detrimental personal impact on him.

The author told a very brief story about his grandmother's reaction to James Brown the first time she saw him and her reaction was because of his conk. That could hardly have sold the book as it was not included in any of the descriptions. One would have to read the book virtually from cover to cover to find that.

James Brown was very talented but he was not God or a saint. There is nothing wrong with talking about his failings (e.g. his arress, aggressive behaviour towards his wife, attending the Pimp Ball so much so that his widow married Bishop Don Magic Juan who hosts the Player's Ball). There is also nothing wrong with mentioning things that he did that showed he had issues with Black identify. Yes he sang Say it Loud I am Black and I am Proud but there is nothing wrong with calling James Brown out for the conk he wore decades after other entertainers had given it up and the sellout behaviour of marrying White women. The way you call out wannabe oyinboo and mzungu playtings, I am surprised you would have a problem with that.

Does James Brown get a pass because of his talent and the one Black pride song he recorded?
