my understanding is that sea salt is not as processed as table salt, so it retain more minerals.

I haven't googled but let me add my two cents. I prefer the <span style="font-style: italic">taste</span> of sea salt in my food - using it fi years now. Also, when I use salted water for <span style="font-style: italic">health</span> reasons (gargle, mouth rinse, sinus cleanse) I prefer it too. One thing though, I find it saltier than regular table salt so a little goes a long way.

Sea salt and table salt have the same basic nutritional value — both mostly consist of two minerals — sodium and chloride. However, sea salt is often marketed as a more natural and healthy alternative. The real differences between sea salt and table salt are in their taste, texture and processing, not their chemical makeup.

Sea salt is produced through evaporation of seawater, usually with little processing, which leaves behind some trace minerals and elements depending on its water source. These insignificant amounts of minerals add flavor and color to sea salt, which also comes in a variety of coarseness levels.

Table salt is mined from underground salt deposits. Table salt is more heavily processed to eliminate trace minerals and usually contains an additive to prevent clumping. Most table salt also has added iodine, an essential nutrient that appears naturally in minute amounts in sea salt.

By weight, sea salt and table salt contain about the same amount of sodium chloride. Your body needs only a couple hundred milligrams (mg) a day to stay healthy, but most people get far too much — mostly from sodium in processed foods. So regardless of which type of salt you prefer, keep sodium consumption between 1,500 and 2,300 mg of sodium a day if you're a healthy adult. People with high blood pressure, African-Americans and anyone middle-aged or older should aim for the low end of that range.

When I was in Jamaica in November, I watched Matabruka (sp?) show and talked about BLACK SALT. He mentioned that it was sold in the Indian stores in Jamaica.. I was unsuccessful in find some before I left. Said it had the same tast as regular salt but NONE OF THE HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE qualities.

Was in the GIANT last night and ran across a bag of Black Salt made in Hawaii... I was tempted to try it but I am afraid it will turn the food the same color and that would be unappealing...

So like Wendy, mi no feel fi Goggle, so talk the tings... better or not than regular... or sea salt... ever heard of it...

Sea salt is still sodium chloride and it affects high blood pressure EXACTLY like table salt. It is chemically the same.
Sea salt has a few added minerals that's all the difference.

Perhaps &quot;black salt&quot; is not really salt but a substitute like Mrs Dash products.

Black Salt has a strong sulphur(sp?) smell (and, imo, taste) ... so, if you like hard boiled eggs, you'll like black salt

I also think the color will &quot;bleed&quot; (maybe with some foods more than others?)
