Re: ital lifestyle
Before making any lifestyle change one should always access their motives for wanting to make the change.
Also...smoking (and I will assume, so correct me if I am wrong, you smoke cigarettes) may be a great place to start.
Come back and provide wi wid some more info.

Re: ital lifestyle
Money is tight.
You smoke.
How much does a pack of cigarette cost?
How much pack per day do you smoke?
About 5 years ago, a friend said he'd love to travel. I told him it's easier than he may think. His response was money is tight and could not afford it. I asked him how much a pack of cigarette cost and I was surprised. Very co$tly. I told him if he seriously wants to enjoy life through traveling and money is tight, he has to cut corners.. I said "how about cutting down on your cigarette purchase? Start putting that cigarette money towards a trip to wherever you want to go." He did that and in the process gave up smoking. Nowadays, he travels frequently and enjoying life without the need for a cigarette.
Just a thought towards something more meaningful. Some times we have the answers but do not know how to start.

How to "just quit" smoking
1.) first and foremost you HAVE TO truly want to quit. it cant be somthing you think you should do, it has to be something YOU truly want to do.
2.) pick your quit date and gradually work your mind towards that date. Start changing the things you do that are conducive to smoking. for example; if you normally smoke in the house start smoking outside. make it an unbreakable rule. you are an addict to the smoking but not an addict to where you smoke. if you smoke right after a meal, change that. make yourself wait 5, 10, 15 mins
If you smoke at work and have scheduled smoke breaks, substitute something that makes your smoke break undesirable. like for example; if you are going to have a smoke you must take the stairs from where ever you are and take the stairs back to where you need to be. reward the smoking with a negative.
3.) when you reach the quit date prepare to detoxify your body. drink things like ginger tea or lemon water or any other detoxifying concoction so when you crave a smoke you drink your thing instead.
4.) Stay away from your friends that smoke when they are smoking. find people who are non-smokers to hang out with.
5.) live your life as a healthy non-smoker would.

that's gonna be hard if you want a healthy diet. but maybe stock up on grains and rice. soy milk is good for the vitamin B's. make your own drinks like ginger beer, carrot/beet etc.

Re: ital lifestyle
Smoking is tougher to quit than a heroin addiction.
Tackle one thing at a time and when you are successful at it move on to the next.
The confidence you gain from triumphing over one thing or another will give you a better winning attitude and help you go on to the next item on your list.
Taking on all of them at once will almost certainly cause you to be overwhelmed, deeply unhappy and ultimately to fail.

Re: ital lifestyle
Agreed..... any advice i've ever received on this, instructs people to start with easy, small steps, then make more changes as you begin to feel comfortable with the first round. trying to do everything at once is too overwhelming. gradual changes are the recipe for success.
something VERY easy to do, that requires no money and might even save you some - is begin to cut out even just a few things from what you eat.
decreasing (with the end-goal of eliminating) white sugar alone will do WONDERS for your heath -- just stop eating sugary, processed foods like cookies, doughnuts, ice cream, soda, sugar cereal -- you get the idea. (and really while you're at it - if you can manage to avoid or even cut down all 'packaged' snack foods - do it -- cause they all are loaded with chemicals, sugar, salt, and fat.)
Begin to read labels on everything when grocery-shopping, and make it a habit. For every thing you pick up, read the label - look at the amount of sugar - you will be SHOCKED at how many pre-packaged items contain HUGE amounts of sugar. If the sugar craving is too strong (and believe me i know it can be) - eat fresh fruit, or even dried fruits - anything that is not 'processed' white sugar. I've also found that keeping small pieces of candy in the house - like a bag of hershey kisses or hard candy, and just having 1 or 2, (and yes i can do that and you can train yourself to do it too), not a whole big candy bar, or a big bowl of ice cream - helps when i'm crazy desparate for something sweet.
other easy, small changes that you can do:
- If you're a breakfast cereal eater, try Kashi -- sweetened with cane juice, not processed white sugar, or make your own porridge/oatmeal with regular oats (WAY cheaper than instant oatmeal). - just boil the oats and water for 5 minutes, and add honey or real maple syrup, (not 'pancake syrup') and/or fruit.
- Snack on carrot sticks, raw broccoli & cauliflower.... if you must dip them in something, use non-fat salad dressing.
- Popcorn, or nuts, are excellent snacks (instead of chips). Yes, nuts have fat but not nearly as much as potato chips, and are much healthier for you. and bonus, both of these snacks are high-fiber.
- Buy whole-grain bread instead of white bread. if it doesn't taste good to you, there are now also "whole-grain 'white' breads"... not AS healthful as full-grain brown bread, but still better than those fluffy 'wonder bread' whitebreads that have no nutrition at all)
- if you get stuck with no choice and have to go to fast-food place, try Wendy's or Taco Bell. Wendy's has salads and chili, and baked potato as a side dish instead of french fries; and TB has bean burritos/tacos. Not ideal, but better than bacon-cheeseburgers or fried-fish sandwiches.
but even if all you can give up at first, is soda and dessert - that alone will make an improvement in your health.
Once you get in that habit, you could move on to decreasing ANYTHING fried; (a hard one to give up but really beneficial for the body), as well as dairy products -- cow milk, cheese, ice cream, etc...... they create mucus and inflammation in the body and it is often a source of digestive system problems. I've found almond milk to be very good-tasting in cereal, coffee, and for cooking - soy milk not so much, but the almond is really good.
Another super-simple and very INexpensive thing you can do is - just add fresh veggies to whatever you eat -- buying them fresh/raw is cheap!!!! Frozen is better than none but not as good as fresh. Don't even bother with canned/tinned veg -- those have zero nutritional value. It's easy to just add a salad to any meal, and/or a portion of steamed veg to your lunch or dinner; even better if you can have the veg/salad instead of a starchy side dish - since starchy carby foods turn right to sugar in the body. Cutting down on rice, pasta, and potatoes in favor of more veg's will assist in weight loss and getting a leaner body in general.
In general, buying fresh food is much cheaper than anything you can buy "packaged" - so it would actually be cheaper to just add fresh meats & veg's to your grocery shopping, than it would to buy fancy expensive prepared or packaged things at a "health food store".
as you feel comfortable with small changes, to go more in the direction of 'ital', you might also consider eating less meat, and begin to eat some vegetarian meals. to do this you might have to begin to cook more, and eat 'fast food' less - and yeh it will take more time & effort to prepare, than 'fast food" eating habits, but as you move along and get more comfortable, you could begin to learn to cook veggie meals as well.
for true ital, you would eat no animal products at all. However, at the beginning it would still be beneficial to your health to begin to forego meat even sometimes --
and of course it costs nothing to go out and take a walk or a jog..... the more you can get up offa the couch and do anything that gets the body moving, the better you will feel and the healthier you will become.
if you are really interested and motivated to improve your health and your eating habits, you don't have to spend money to do it - you just gotta be serious and get up and just start somewhere.
as you begin to feel better and see results of small changes, you may get to the point where you'll be ready do something more active to detoxify your body. at that point, you can look up the benefits of cleansing, using things like Apple Cider Vinegar - just google it - and raw juices. there is a WEALTH of info on how to utilize ACV, and juicing for detoxing the body, and just for general better health. (and detoxing in general also decreases the sugar cravings.)
finally here's a website i've found to be VERY enlightening and useful for natural methods of improving health, and healing diseases - at some point you might want to take a look around on it.
