I saw the segment this morning on Today (or was it GMA?). I don't know how I feel about the label. I mean them have to call it something. What I don't agree with is when I go in stores and them section of "bigger" clothes is in a separate section from the other clothes. Or, when the clothes don't look like the others (to be read: uglier).
Also, I wonder if you are the parent that has to buy those clothes for your kid...is it in your mind to HONESTLY consider if your child is just taller or have longer legs for them age? Or is is fat? The girl that was being interviewed for the segment this morning was well poised and deserve fashionable clothing, but she wasn't simply "big boned" either.
It is a delicate balance....

Re: Plus size for girls
they probably still use those numbers but the kids know what the X means. they have also moved the sizes down to as young as 3 years as well as using labels below.
some girls are a bit put off by the word plus
this pretty plus tag is from JCP I think

Re: Plus size for girls
I agree with ILP that they have to call it something. "Plus" is a far sight better than "husky" but neither one is all that hot. I think they should stick with the "X" system Kia described.

I can understand why they are put off. It's not enough to add the"x" but they have to stamp "PLUS" on it too just in case you missed it lol. If I had a daugther I would not buy it with that tag on it.
It's not a matter of being in denial because the size is what it is. If the girl can't fit in a regular then she just can't. I don't think it takes all that to identify the right size though.
I realize a lot of my attitude is just pure vanity though. Like I know if I blow up in the future, I'm not setting foot in Lane Bryant. Whatever I get would have to come from a regular store even if I had to get it out the "women's" section.

Re: Plus size for girls
Pretty Plus
Plus
Husky
... whatever
Two things need to happen:
a) If the girls are obese, then their parents need to help them be aware of the health risks with obesity and help them with a MEDICALLY-approved weight loss program for young girls,
OR
b) The girls need to accept their own size FOR THE MOMENT ... nothing is wrong with being 'plus' at this age ... it is just how they are wired.
So, calling it Pretty Plus or whatever is just going to translate into LARGE.
