Yes.
Used to be a time a woman would ease a weave in her head. Add an inch or two at a time over the course of several months. Now you can even go to work with it shoulder-length straight one day and waist-length wet & wavy the next and nobody bats an eye.
I wonder when the shame exactly started though because women used to wear wigs all the time in the 60s and 70s. It's like there was no problem back when it looked obviously fake.
