Why do men tie their heads in Jamaica?

This isn't part of African cultures so why do men tie their heads in Jamaica?


I was going to post photos of examples but when I Googled Pocomania I came across a blog about spells written by an obeahman and thought I had better not press my luck. But examples include Pocomania, Bobo Rasta and obeahmen.

the answer could be just practicality. dem have up long locks and need a way to keep it out of dem face and off dem back in hot weather maybe there is no deep meaning behind it all

It isn't just men with locks. De men in pocomania do it and some of the obeahmen do it too.
