Electrolysis - Anyone ever try it?

I am tired of the waxing.

Years ago I met a South African esthetician who offered to give me a 15 minute trial. Well it burned like crazy and she only succeeded in getting 2 hairs in 15 minutes.

When I think of waxing for the rest of my life, it leaves me cold. Has anyone done electrolysis...upper lip or other facial areas? Are there any places that put you to sleep when then do it. How expensive is it?

Sorry for the name dropping about the esthetician. Ignore that part if it bothers you.

i had faint hairs on my upper lip - mind you faint hairs it took one year of monthly treatments at $150/session - one session per month because the hairs have to regrow so that the lazer can pick them up. also, know that i had a woman who specialized in lazering dark skinned women (business defunct) - i couldn't find her on google to give you a recommend. black women aren't the ideal candidates for this - lazer works best on dark hair against light skin. like hairy skin sicillian women for eg.

also waxing encourages more hair growth because your body feels it has been injured and will pour more blood into the injure (hair follicle) which will result in double growth. just a heads up on that. don't get me started on the brazilian waxing business

no they don't put you to sleep. the session doesn't last more than 1/2 hour for the small spot i have. it's the italian guys who get their backs done for $500/pop i weep for and that's the way it works. my moustance is hardly waxable now, but i do notice a few one and one hair every now an then that are manageable.

I couldn't figure out why more hairs seemed to be coming in and more quickly. So waxing will make the problem worse and worse...oh dear.

Did it hurt a lot? Am I best to not wax for a month or two, let as many of the hairs grow in as possible (hide in a cave somewhere as I will be unfit to be seen ) and then go for eletctrolysis.

The South African (white) woman had a hard time finding my hairs so I guess it is best I find a competent Black woman to do this. Once a month for a year sound like more torture than the waxing and it is 214+ times the price.

By the time I reached 19 or 20 yrs, I started having ingrown hair. Tried tweezing and that made it worse. I tried electrolysis in Jamaica but it was too expensive and the process meant repeated visits. After I came to the US, I found an electrolysis in my neighbourhood. She charged $30 for 30-minutes. It took 5 years of repeated visits - first starting out with once per week, then over the years it became once ever six months, then once a year. I no longer have ingrown hair. No facial hair. And absolutely no scarring. My face is as smooth as a baby's butt.

The result is permanent.. and 5 years went by quickly and have no regrets.
Over the 5 years the visits whittled down from once a week, to once a month to ever 3 months to 2x per year, to once a year to no more visits needed. By two and half years I went 2x per year and visits were only 15 minutes.

Just a little prick...I used to fall asleep in her chair. Used a numbing agent cream... Lidocaine.

I guess I will look into it again. Perhaps the White woman who did the demo did not know what she was doing. She was from South Africa but maybe she had not worked on Black skin before and couldn't find the hairs.
