oohhh so if i get my hair wet regularly then the henna comes out quicker?

thanks for the tip on hair oil.. i dont use it generally but can add it to the repertoire - i have some jojoba oil? u think it will do?

I finger combed it to loosen the girls.. had the big hair look for the day.. & then had a semi locks look until I washed & redid the process [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/704555_dwl.gif[/img]

<span style="color: #336666">Henna</span>: I mean dip your hair repeatedly in the basin until the powder is all gone, then deep condition, style, etc. The powder sometimes likes to get stuck in the nooks and crannies of curly hair.

The color may fade slightly with time but it's more permanent than permanent chemical dyes so be sure you want that henna color. Some people test it first on hair from their brush and adjust the mix accordingly until they get it right.

<span style="color: #336666">Oil for twist-outs</span>: natural oils are OK, but "grease" gives you hold and shine; when you put it on wet, that more or less ensures that it won't leave your hair greasy. (No need to put it on your scalp of course.) In the evening I lightly mist hair with water, add little more grease, and re-twist. Only have to do about 6-10 twists. The style will last for 3 days before you have to wash again. As you wash 2x a week this should fit in with your schedule.

I twisted it last night using jojoba oil and combed it through.. mind you this was hair that was washed the day before & put in a ponytail hence I think the trashy ends.





my hands are under the next pic to show more of the effect of the twist.

you should have ensured your hair was still wet or damp by the time you twisted it. That would've prevented the ends from becoming trashy.

Donnika's right about twisting it while wet. If you don't want to use grease, try mixing aloe vera or IC Fantasia Gel with jojoba to keep hair smooth and give it some hold. They don't have alcohol or leave residue.

It turned out good but not exactly like how I wanted it.

We decided to leave the base color as my own hair color since it is a rich brown right now. She added the lighter highlights but didnt make it as golden as we originally planned because to get the color we were aiming for would require cutting the color with some bleach.

My hair is in excellent condition right now and both me and the hairdresser decided it wasnt worth the possible damage to add bleach to lift some of the color.

So the highlights are more a reddish-gold than anything. It still looks good but not what I pictured. So next week she is gonna add an intensifier thingy which will lighten the streaks closer to what I want and then darken my base color so I have more of a contrast. The main goal is to not damage my hair just to get a particular color.

I'll see if she can take a pix next Friday morning when I go in.

The reddish-gold sounds lovely, Nylah.

I feel a bit dubious about increasing the contrast though. It seems like your hair could end up looking like a zebra. Of course, not having seen your hair, I don't know what I'm talking about so take what I say with the proverbial grain of salt.

Thanks Blackstar. It does look nice against my skin. Everyone keeps asking me if I've gotten some sleep lately cause I look more livelier [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/whatever.gif[/img]

I feel u on the zebra thingy but I dont think it will turn out like that since so far the effects are subtle. I just want little more lightening but if it is too much she can throw a rinse over to tone it down.
