I like down coats because they're really warm and can look elegant - if you're the right size. I have a beaver coat that I drag out in really cold weather - couple of down vests for wearing over short leather jackets.
I have a way cook kenneth cole lether long coat - i wear it with a sheep vest. leather isn't all that warm - wool coats have never been all that warm for me. i walk home 6km and i need to stay warm.
if you're going for wool, get a style like the one you show in your first post - but not with a belt - one has to be micro thin and not short to pull that look off.
Do you ever get flack for the beaver coat. I had a beautiful sheepskin coat that never fit again after I became pregnant so I gave it away. One day I was walking on Yonge St. There were these tree hugging animal rights activitists and one of them shouted at me:
"How would you like it if someone removed your skin and started walking around in it?"
I have a down coat that I wore during pregnancy. It is huge now but I will put it on if I am going to watch indoor polo in the winter so that my regular coat doesn't smell like a horse. I suppose I could just wear one of my winter riding jackets.
nah only the WWF begging donations people - they're like "give back to the planet". i didn't kill the damm thing so i don't care. i HAVE gotten disgusted looks when i wear the vintage fox stole with the head/tail/feet on.
o. when you're downtown - there's a way cool little boutique in the village by the grange mall - inside - really high end stuff. they have down coats there that are really elegant and the prices won't strangle you and poke your eyes out like rob ford - actually affordable stuff.
the dresses and skirts are devine but $$$$$$$$$. guess the coats are loss leaders.
Have you ever popped into Lorne's on Spadina? Most of the coats are b-o-o-oring but form time to time there are nice ones.
yes very booooooooooooooring. not my cup of tea at all - and marilyn's is even worse. i travel off the beaten path - so those too conventional styles are NOT for me.
Suesumba, it took forever but I finally found a winter coat. Man oh man! Apparently, the stores did not order a lot of coats as the last few winters have been mild. So, they sold out of the longer winter coats in October when the snow and cold weather came early. This is one of the coldest winters with the highest rates of snow fall in a long time. I ended up looking in 2 countries, 5 cities and I finally found something a Lorne's. I wanted to change my colour but it was mostly dull colours this year white, black, gray, brown, very dark blue. So I am back with the same bright colour but it's nice coat. it was too big so they have to take it in. Nothing in that style was left in my size.
Anyway thanks Suesumba. Most of the coats at Lorne's were exceedingly boring but I found 1 that hit the mark.
