anybody have any PRESSURE COOKER disaster stories, me haffe print dis and give har, after fe har ordeal, she would get a kick outta it, [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

The pressure cooker is defective if it can be opened while under pressure.
There are newer designs that are impossible to be opened whilr it is pressurized.

I have had to personally treat a relative that used a defective pressure cooker and experienced burns covering from face,to thihgs,that was 1 year ago and now it is almost ompossible to see the marks.

I introdused the use of cling wrap to the area after hours of cooling the tissue and she has recovered almost without the usual marks.
It is very to use cling, ( many Docs are not aware of this,but if you suggest it they usually recognise the advantage over gauze.

(((CTRY))) mi girl, girl years ago mi ex him a pressure mi tink a bones fi mek soup,will mi nuh memba wah him do but de next ting mi knoh soup bone a fly like missiles ,bway,de roof de roof. mi dis walk out ( glad him neva deh near still).

oh mi mek him clean it up, yu mad not mi. mi say him had to repaint the whole first floor.

mi have a micro wave pressure cooker now,no not de likle dibbi dibbi ones. the solid ones,mi nuh tink yu can get dem fi buy any more,not sure doh.

Silverdene ointment is the usual treatment,which is suitable.
If she has a lot of blisters,tell her to eat ripe bananas,to make up for the possible loss of potasium (K+).
Majority of death due to burns is due to catastrophic loss of K+.

He develope blisters,due nost likely by the technique they used to apply the cold.

the area should be coveren with 2 layers of white paper towels and cold water (ice in it) should be use to keep it wet.
Otherwise the tissue will not be properly saturated to reverse the arrest and reverse tissue burn.

This is a reasonably new technique,but the results are remarkable.

BUT my mommy cooks and she have some pressha cooka story I think one day she was cooking and di sinting uppa di tap (wah it name - weight?? [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img] ) Anyway, di black sinting, fly off an nearly lick har eena har eye....

Another time (recently) she was cooking somehting and took the pressure cooker off the stove and put it in the sink or something and she took off the cover and whatever she was cooking was all over the place...luckily she stepped back else it would have been her face [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

I love my pressure cooker, but they must be treated with the same caution as you would a boiler. Preventive maintenence is the key. Never use a pressure cooker with a dried cracked and worn gasket, replace any defective parts. Use of proper amount of water is crucial, as is letting the pot naturally cool to a temp that will allow it to be opened. If used safely, the pressure cooker not only cooks up some wonderfully fresh tasting food, it does it in a remarkable quick time. Safe cooking everyone!
