Hi Irie Dawta, do you have the chocolate you can grate for this? Let me know. If you do, for one cup, grate about a tbsp. of the chocolate, add to a cup or two of water, bring to a boil, then turn it down to simmer for about 5 minutes. You can add a little "tiny" bit of grated nutmeg if you desire.
Strain it into your cup, sweeten with turbinado sugar or sweet milk to taste, stir with a cinnamon stick, or spoon if you don't want cinnamon, take stick/spoon out and drink hot. I usually don't use nutmeg.
If you don't have the Jamaican chocolate balls then you can buy the Spanish version in the stores here but the JA ones are the most desirable. The Spanish version sold here is called "IBARRA" Sweet Chocolate. Comes in a red and yellow package with about 1 lb. of chocolate in it in 6 cakes. They are separated into wedges as well, so you'd use 1-2 wedges. This version already has cinnamon in it. You'll have to try to measure this to your liking. I'm sure after a few cups you have it just to your liking.
Thanks Simmy. I don't have chocolate to grate, I have a tin of cocoa powder (for baking, hot cocoa, etc.) but I can buy the correct kind, that's not a problem.
It sounds good and I want to try it out this weekend.
Thanks a lot for your help
(((Grandma))) you're a sweetheart. I have all those ingredients at home already. Thank you. It sounds yummy. I am going to make it this weekend. It's my birthday tomorrow so I am going to indulge in cocoa heaven!
Thanks again to both of you darlings.
I just finished making the cocoa tea a half hour ago and it came out delicious! I didnt use the spices because of my stomach trouble but I used the condensed milk and after adding that I found that I didn't need to add any sugar.
Anyway, it came out really good thanks to both of you.
