The Maroons, in collaboration with the British, murdered Chief Tacky, the leader of the 1760 rebellion in St Mary.

The Maroons won many battles against the British, but in winning their freedom. They consigned their fellow Africans to suffer under the yoke of chattled slavery for many years to come.

Their hollow victory, was ultimately a defeat.

You are entitled to your opnion.. However the Maroons were neither saints nor sinners... Like all in history they were cowards, compromisers and collaborators.... That they survived in a hostile territory is amazing.. that they turned back slaves during their war with the British is a fact a nessisty for survival...They literally let some runaways die if not they could not sustain their existance.. After the treaty they did hunt down runaways... There was even theories that they practiced slavery at times...

Too many myths have been built up around them.. It is easier to sit back with the hindsight of modern conviences and fast foods to understand how dificult it was to survive in internal Jamaica with the technology that they had... Today give a Jamaican the identical technology and ask them to survive without the benifit of a secure trade.. the uncertainty of water... the vagaries of the weather.. Their supply line was tenuious at best.. they lacked a manufacturing base.. Their victories were never victories in a military sense...they had to avoid contact with a superior armed and supplied enmy. Imagine their child mortality rates ???????Given that cohelra, dpiteria, Maleria ect were a fact of life.. The slave population was maintained by importation not by procreation... I let Doc do that projection.. His skill set is better able than mine... Add to that that as this was a war of attrition then this was huge..

That they avoided coordinating and coorporating with the slaves is understandable.. in real poltical terms...History has proven them right...

Of those 600 transported.. the number of effective males was less than 100... (Think of the number of support staff that has to go into getting warriors in todays conflcit..)
