<span style="font-style: italic">To get things started, and while others are thinking of their own questions:</span>

1) Did you grow up with religious beliefs, and if so, at what point did you start to question them?
<span style="color: #3333FF"> I grew up Anglican in St. Elizabeth. I believed in God. In particular, I believed that God could come for his world at any time, and worried a little about being caught sinning at that point. When we saw a comet for the first time, or first noticed that days were shorter at certain times of the year, i immediately tried to be good - perhaps not think bad thoughts about other people, tried not to lie or take the Lord's name in vain, you know, those little things that kids think will get them into heaven.

i think all along some things puzzled me about God, like this thing about being in his image - i wondered how could so many different people be in his image. I would ask what God looked like but be told that nobody could see God. very confusing.

not sure exactly when my atheism crystallized, but i was a voracious reader (even of the bible, though i read it for the dirty bits), so i suppose it was inevitable. i think i was in high school and learning about the universe and about other religions when i realized that i no longer believed in a God.

2) Do you ever have any struggles with doubts in your current convictions, especially during the "I don't know" moments?
<span style="color: #3333FF"> i don't really have "i don't know" moments about the existence of God. unless you're talking about a different kind of doubts...?</span>

3) Given that you do not believe in God, do you think that His presumed non-existence is self-evident, and if so, in what ways?
<span style="color: #3333FF"> it's more like i don't see any proof that god exists. a lot of what i see people ascribing to deities i think are the consequences of human will and action, or just natural forces. i don't really spend a lot of time thinking about the possibilities of god's existence or trying to "prove" god's non-existence. i'm tickled by the idea of goddesses, though. </span>

4) For some people, religion, regardless of which, adds a sense of purpose/meaning to their lives. How has your world view shaped how you approach life?
<span style="color: #3333FF">it's somewhat similar to sue's approach. i think that there are universal principles developed and shared over time by all humanity as a means of survival, and that these principles appeal to the better qualities in humans. when faced with adversity, i just deal with it, and what forces or factors i cannot control i acknowledge that and move on. i sometimes wished i was a believer, because life seems so simple to them when it comes to dealing with adversity. but i've never been able to bring myself back to being a believer. </span>

5) Do you believe that we (earthlings) are alone in the universe? If no, why?
<span style="color: #3333FF"> i believe in biology, chemistry, etc. so i guess i acknowledge the possibility of other life forms in the universe. i don't really spend a lot of time thinking about it, though. </span>

6) As you look at the world today, and the different challenges (starvation, war, famine, etc.), how does your world view inform/influence how you see things? Would you say it is a matter of the survival of the fittest? </span></span>

<span style="color: #3333FF">more or less. alot of what happens is driven by the quest to stay one step ahead of natural forces, which includes human will, which is driven by the quest for survival of the species. it's circular, i guess. </span> </div></div>

((((MG))))...I'm already convinced that you are a closet Christian. You are one of the coolest non-believer that I like hanging out with. With that out of the way:

1. You have mentioned going to service with your mom (hugs to mom too) at Easter etc...why do you go?

2. Do you believe in life after death?

3. If A and A decide to get together and Girl A decides that she loves her mother-in-law (me) enough to take a second love at Christianity would you discourage or encourage her?

4. Should A & A have children and they want to raise them with Christians beliefs, how would you feel about that?

5. How do you think all this started...the world that is?

MG, I was falling asleep now I'm wide awake thinking so I thought I would throw another question, maybe two out here.

1. We have over 70 different nationalities attending my church, including folks who practiced Hindu, etc. Do you have an opinion why people in general have this need to worship something or someone?

2. Still thinking about the different nationalities in my church, why do you think so many people from so many backgrounds have decided to believe in Jesus?

3. I think I asked Mutty this question. I recall seeing Miss K when she was 10 days old through an ultrasound. She was the size of a period. I never really thought much about conception and the baby growing much until that experience with my 10 days old miracle. Who do you think created the original design with all this DNA info stored in a dot that tells the dot when to grow legs, arms, head, eyes, teeth...etc?

Interesting the way you reacted to the things that puzzled/confused you. As a voracious reader myself, I recall having "a million and one" questions to which no one could provide any useful answers, but once I started my own odyssey, my conclusions were the opposite of yours. This after reading and thinking through "tons" of arguments pro and against God and christian theology. Just another example of how people can sometimes look at the some of the same things and walk away with different conclusions. The "in his image" bit can be very confusing - even for christians - if it isn't properly explained.

Is there any particular "proof" that you would have considered good enough?</span>

I grew up learning the Anglican ritual and like the idea of being part of a community around the world that knows a particular ceremony. the idea of community is pretty powerful in human survival, and religion offers that form of community in a way that becomes formative. What i like aobut Easter and the Anglican form of it is that it taps into the pagan stream shaped by nature. The Saturday vigil in particular i love for its beautful metaphors of sun vanquishing night, light overcoming darkness.</span>

2. Do you believe in life after death? <span style="color: #3333FF"> No. I find the idea a tad absurd.</span>

3. If A and A decide to get together and Girl A decides that she loves her mother-in-law (me) enough to take a second love at Christianity would you discourage or encourage her?
<span style="color: #3333FF"> I advise both my children to be true to themselves, live their lives in such a way that they do good in the world, and set examples of personal integrity. Their belief or non-belief in God would be a part of their essence. Should Boy A fall in love with Girl A, he will be falling in love with who she is as a non-believer (as she currently is), and vice versa. So the idea of becoming a believer to please mom-in-law is not actually computing for me, lol! </span>

4. Should A & A have children and they want to raise them with Christians beliefs, how would you feel about that?
<span style="color: #3333FF"> It would be their children and their decision on how to raise the children. However, I would not hide my own atheism from my grandchildren.</span>

5. How do you think all this started...the world that is? <span style="color: #3333FF"> Let's see - I've heard of big bang, cosmic egg, turtles climbing up to heaven, a supernatural being separating darkness from light...who knows? even more important, who cares? the creation of the world means very little to me as a subject of inquiry, lol. it doesn't really figure into how i live my life.</span> </div></div>
