Can't wait to hear your experiences. I've known many many people who have made that "big" move and considering that I have many times thought of it myself...(even been offered some pretty good work in Ja)...I always treasure hearing about their experiences with the move. What expectations were like...what they didn't like..what things were really like or not like. It's all a journey and we learn as we go along. I've lived many places in this world and one day I will probably give Ja a try too so I would appreciate any input...good and bad. No censoring please. I went back & forth many times for the next 12 years & also had a son during that time Even though I was born & raised in Wisconsin, I’ve never been a fan of winter, just didn’t know it could be any different until I moved to Mia. With my “then” husband in the early ‘70’s. This is only ONE of the reasons why I wanted to move to Ja….back then I’d never even heard reggae music or knew anything about Ja.

I really have to say that reggae music, when I was finally exposed to it, stirred something deep inside me…something about it just carried me away. The drum & base and irie ridims made me dance and I loved it. This was all happening in Mia. around 1980.

I made several moves after that, Cali. In 1980, & then Taos, New Mex. In 1983…always searching for those reggae concerts and the people that enjoyed them. I was not a groupie, just was searching for the music & the vibe….met some wonderful people during those years, that have had a tremendous influence on my way of thinking and flow of my life in general.

Then it was back to Mia. where my continual search for the music & what it was all about, led me to Jamaica. I’ve always traveled to Ja. myself & was totally enveloped by the sounds, colors, music, language, beautiful plants and trees & of course, the people. I was intrigued by the very DIFFERENCE between Ja. & the US…I loved being surrounded by it.
period.

Then, I moved to Vermont, for reasons which are too involved and wordy to get into….Opened a business in 1997 and kindled the flame until it prospered.

I stayed ther a long time without my Ja. “fix”…only went 1 time during all those years. I was either too busy to go or when I had time I had no $….I was busy raising my son alone and building my business…but, always there, in the back of my mind, was a little voice that said “go back to Jamaica, because you love it”…To myself I always said, “ if I ever have any $, I’m going to buy a little piece of Ja.”

During this time period I did keep in touch with one person, in particular, who was always there for me, no matter what I was doing or who I was with, he was always a friend.

Before I go any further with this, I’m going to test out the copy & paste thing again…

My shop was prospering in Vt., and I wanted my son to be in a stable environment, soooo, as much as I missed Ja., I settled in and bit the bullet & complained a lot during the winter…absolutely HATED the cold & snow!!…ther seemed to be NO men around that I was interested in plus I was heavily involved with the whole process of raising my son, continuing my business and exploring my creative talents ( and hoping they could make me some $)…

In 2004, Mar. ( STILL the dead of winter in Vt.) I started looking at a website called “escapeartist.com)…after all, business was slow and I was bored, plus my son would be out of high school the next year and I had always said to myself, or anyone else who was interested that “ when Jabari finishes highschool, I’m outta here!!!”…including my landlord.

I searched all over the Caribbean…anywhere that was warm…Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, St. Lucia (was always intrigued by it, but had never been there), and Jamaica.

One day, when I was surfing the net, looking at properties, a friend from Philly, who was visiting, came in my shop. (she is also a Jamacaholic)…I showed her several of the properties that I was looking at. She said “I’ve always wanted to buy property in Ja., so I will go halves with you, If you want to deal with it.” At that point, I moved very quickly. I booked my flight and made a plan of how to see all my Ja. properties. I had looked at many different real estate sites in the meantime and had found several properties that looked like they had potential, not only to live in, but from a business aspect, because I knew I had to find some way to make a $ a Yaad.

ok...don't know whT HAPPENED HERE, BUT i DID THE SAME THING AS USUAL & NOW i CAN'T GET THE NEXT SEGMENT TO POST...i DID SAVE IT THOUGH AND TRIED TO POST IT TWICE, Oops! I know it is frustrating with the timeout session. I recommend writing your longer posts in a Word document, make sure you save the file, then copy and paste it into the Post.

That's what I did Sandi and for some reason 1/2 of it dissappeared...I tried to copy & post once and it didn't work, so I went back to do it again and 1/2 of it was gone...I must'ave done something wrong, but don't know what. I will try again tomorrow.

What's MORE frustrating is that everytime I post & then go back to the board, I see "page expired"...is anyone else having this problem ?
