Louise Bennett....(Tribute Thread)

Just heard on RJR that the late Louise Bennett aka Miss Lou passed away last night in Canada at age 85.

Some may remember Miss Lou and Mas Ron from "Ring Ding" a show for kids back in the days.

RIP Hon Louise Bennet, as soon as I saw the thread title I suspected as much. I had the chance to meet her back in primary school what a oman could a talk and mek yu feel like is yu granny or aunty. Jamaica lost one of its greatest.

if this is true then i am in mourning...Louise Bennett was a formative influence on my life as a child.....use to recite her poems from primary school go up....loved her use of words which led to my love of poetry in general

i reread her books to this day and own many of them....
in truth, a Jamaican in every sense of the word, and a Woman of purpose ,in every sense of the word....
Rest In Peace , Ms. Lou...u , Mass Ranny, Bim and Bam an Clovis will keep all Heaven in laughter ova in the Yaadie section

Bwoy mi sad, unu ever hear evening time sung by Hon. Louis Bennet...man if unu want hear how it should be done get the recording, bowy Miss Lou god speed, I glad she was able to come back a Jamaica and get honored before she died...classy jamaican dat, that whole group of real classy old time jamaicans dying out, born in colonial times and lived to see independence. Bwoy I gwen miss har so till.

I was just telling someone lastnight that the one reason I chose Canada to move to, was when I learnt that Ms. Lou lived here. My reasoning was that if Ms Lou could leave her nice home in August Town and come live in Canada, then Canada cant be that bad.
I actually was looking at a picture of her and thinking that she is looking frail and wondered how longer was it gonna be before I was gonna hear that she died.

Weird enuff, I dreamt lastnight that a friend of mine was dead, and his girlfriend didnt know, so and when she asked me how he was doing, I wasnt sure how to tell her he had died?
Now I come on here and find out Ms Lou dead .. man now mi sad [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]
She was a great lady. One Love Ms Lou...
