Moas a dem nuh marrid cawse - dem nuh ready or dem nuh want to - not cawse de pickings slim. So "eligible" I would not call them.

You voted, yes, the 10 finalists were selected by readers. And, 26-year-old Tariq Nembhard emerged as your top choice among Jamaica's Most Eligible Bachelors.

From a list of 30, down to 10, Tariq was chosen as one of Jamaica's most desirable suitors, but the handsome young man still purports that he was never popular with the ladies - modesty is one of his fortes. With a mischievous grin he says, "It has boosted my ego," but asserts that, "any man can be appealing if he wants."

There is much about this young man that a potential mate-seeker would find appealing. Apart from his striking good looks, he also has a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Technology and is the marketing manager of Watts New Limited, a local retailer for consumer electronics. He has also taken the entrepreneurial route and co-owns a Jamaican-based clothing line called Kingston 21. The ambitious young man will some day make a great husband for some lucky woman, and coincidentally, he is just about ready to relinquish his bachelorhood.

Hopes for Marriage

Tariq hopes to be married within the next two years, and start his family before he turns 30. His personal formula for a successful relationship - and ultimately a successful marriage - is to find someone with whom he can say, "I am happy to be with their good side and their bad side." Then again, it is hard to believe that the charming young bloke even has a bad side. He confesses to being a mischievous and sometimes provoking person, but notes that it is only in jest. "People need to laugh more," he says with a smirk.

His friends seem to share this same comedic manner, as they have now placed him at the centre of their jokes since he was featured on the Flair list. He recalls a recent incident where they proclaimed to the service staff at a restaurant that they deserve special attention because, "We are in the company of one of Jamaica's most eligible bachelors!"

More about Tariq

His favourite book is the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, and he generally enjoys reading Shakespeare's works.

He is currently reading Richard Kiyosaki's international best-seller Rich Dad, Poor Dad, which he says has given him new perspective on managing one's earnings. The mantra from the book that has thus far stood out is, "The poor and middle class work for money; the rich make their money work for them."

For leisure he says that it is easy to have fun once in good company.

He used to take part in car racing like another of our Flair bachelors, Peter Moodie Jr. who also happens to be a friend of Tariq's. He enjoys watching the races on occasion, though he no longer participates himself.

His favourite television shows, are Fresh Prince of Belair and The Cosby Show.
