..back home in the 80's they used to "marry" basic food items with certain products. To get a pound of flour, one had to buy a tin of Ajax, and horror of horrors, I recall feminine products being 'married' to rice \o/

Can you remember some of the things that were 'coupled' back in your neck of the woods?

Oh, I remember stuff like that as well but what also sticks out in my mind was when certain people went to the store and were told such-and-such was finished, but when others went, it just magically was available to them.

I also remember my Mom sending me to get big jill of cooking oil and I couldn't get it because it was married to sardine, and of course, we couldn't afford them both \o/
