Things I had to get used to after moving here....

Children calling big people by their first names

Dawg inna house an dawg inna car

Being the only black man in the room in meetings at work

Co-workers who see you outside the office and pretend not to know you

People who would say "oh we must have you ever for dinner" and not realizing that what they are really saying is "I'm just trying to sound liberal so don't hold your breath".

Stupid Halloween that's coming

Houses with no fences

"Parties" at work where everyone sits around staring at each other or talking about….work.

Trying to give your business to other yardies only to get ripped off worsa by them

Yardies who bring their same old tired classism and profiling up here

nice thread by the way, dat really have me scratching me head top and tinking, thinking way back...
lets see..

I had to get used to *office gossip* and realize that thats the norm inna america..

I also had to get used to hearing the f**** word, and the s***, and the b**** word..

Had to realize how to use the subway system, and note to meslef that Downtown meant home..and uptown meant me a go lass...

had to get used to walking the street, and not saying marning, or howdy do..
People a NY dont speak to each other..

Had to stop calling my teachers *Sir*.... (had a college professor tell me dis..) [img]/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img]

Had to learn to deal with the intense loneliness of being inna foreign country and not having much of my yardies present..

wondered why a black person or a Latino, or a Asian has never been named President of the united states..

wondered why parents, seh, dem cant *handle* dem children. A noh fe unno?

Wondered why people always think that 18 years old is considered to be a grown up age?

Wondered why the educational system looked down on jamaica's educational system, and some of them same people cant even write a proper sentence without nuff grammatical errors

Wondered if we deh in a country so rich and so powerful, why dem cant seem to get a handle on those within its walls who are poor and homeless. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70367-help.gif[/img]

store clerks and such not responding when u say good morning

people have lawn fi lawn sake and put in sprinkler system fi keep it green fi green sake

people whe noh season de meat from the night before fi de next evening meal

Wondered why some of the kids were allowed to dress so *grown* and dem only 10 and 12?
