I saw video clips of him from friends house who mad over farrakhan. The problem is the man just talk too much about white devil dis and dat. The way I see it him cannot eat, sleep, clothes, wash, travel, technology and even live unless a white devil according to him is providing services to enable living standards - think about it. Simply put in a nutshell however, it is not FUBU fault that so called "black people" can't afford to buy their clothes line. In the world of branding and profits - capitalism dictates so what they gonna do after they sit down with their financial advisors, accountants and investors/shareholders and discuss profit and loss and a sustainable and viable businmess model. No bredren I take my hat off to FUBU. We need more FUBU to enter in the global market and effect a new tradition. Full time we step up and claim our share of the pie. I undertsnad where you coming from but! Should FUBU sell their stuff dirt cheap regardless of the overheads to produce it? Should they sell their gear in $dollar shops (£pound shops) to oblige "black people" or the poor? Are their targeted customers only African Americans? Should FUBU sell at one price for the "whites" and another price for the "black"?

Successful African Entrepreneurs don't owe other Africans of any demonition a living!! They don't owe anyone for that matter a living anymore than Donald Trump owes "white people" a living!!

We Africans of the western hemisphere need to realise and recognise this fact and follow the lead instead of waiting for Santa Clause to come hand it down nice and easy like.

Charity sponsors for African American communinities/programmes is another issue however - tax refundable in anycase.

It depends on the market he is targeting and the overheads that will allow for his markup and for the business to remain sustainable, pure and simple. No one outside his "executive office" has the right to tell him he must sell his gear at this price or that price.

Everyone is not FUBU or Karl Kani or Sean John. Personally If I was in these guys position I would target the market that suits my business interest best. Maybe even different companies selling to different targeted customers.

Case in point British Airways; they target the ordinary and first class flights to compete with American Airlines and they own a separate airline called Go that targets cheap flights around europe only that competes with Easy Jet. However a company cannot base its business model on racial grounds in terms of guilt and whether they must feel obliged to put back something in their respective racial community, that is purely voluntary

Ohmanohmanohman, I could sure step in this deep enough to twist this thread off course, but since it's your thread, and you asked, I'll tell you how I know. I am a lifetime student of philosophy and religious study. When I was an innocent (recently graduated) college youth I heard there was going to be a speaker on campus one friday nite who was going to talk about the Black Muslim religion. Being an uneducated, curious, interested, student of religious studies from a whitey-white-white upbringing (but I had actually seen black people on t.v.) in a new, multi-racial, multi-cultured university environment - which, unbeknownst to me at the time, was in the county in the u.s. that boasted the highest per capita membership in the KKK - I went off to hear a speech that I thought would be rather like other lectures I had attended whose intention was to enlighten me to a new religious understanding.

The speech was not given by Farrakhan. I didn't hear him speak until years later, a the funeral of a family member and a great man. THAT was when I was grateful.

Back to the speech. When I got to the room on campus where the speech was held, I saw lots of people I knew. I owned one of the only two record stores in town. The owner of the other store told me after the first week I opened (he had been there fifteen years already), "You can have the n!@@ers, cuz I don't want em in my store." I responded "That's fine with me, cuz money green." Every non-white person in that desert who was into music shopped in my oasis. Almost everyone knew me. I had a lot of black acquaintances, several friends. There were people who shook their heads when I told them I was going to the speech, but no body hipped me up.

Lots of the people I saw there before the speech spoke with me, shook my hand, or hugged me. Many expressed having a vague idea of the tenents of the Black Muslim religion. In my mind, we were all there for the same thing.

The speaker was Khalid Abdul Muhammad, at that time the national spokesman for the Nation Of Islam, and right hand of Mr. Farrakhan.

I wasn't uncomfortable when I noticed that there were only three yt people in the lecture hall. One was a professor of anthropology. The other was a reporter for the student paper. And then there was me. By the end of the evening, I was the only one left. I didn't leave even when Mr Muhammad got in my face and yelled, "oh, don't LEAVE! DON'T LEAVE! YOU DON'T HAVE TO LLLLLLEEEAAAVVVVE!!!!!!"

Rasta, later we can talk about the specific things that were said, the accusations and the derogation. But for now, for the sake of brevity - and since I am sure you are very familiar with the tenents of that faith, as even am I now - let me tell you the effect.

All of those people who had embraced me, who had shopped in my store, who had been to my house, whose houses I had been in, who I had danced with, whose family members I had met, suddenly either couldn't face me and ran off, or they looked at me with strange expressions on their faces - and then bolted. One guy, whom I had never met, saw me walking out of the venue with what must have been a dazed look on my face, much like the one that goes with the expression, "but, but but....!!!" and he stopped me. "There a whitey right there!" Of course I stopped and looked at him. I didn't know it at the time, but he was a football star. He was the biggest damned guy I ever stood next to, and he was hot. (I mean in the sense of angry, but he was hot, too.) He was surrounded by an entourage. "YOU FEEL GUILTY????" He shouted.

I went off, I must admit. NONE of my friends/acquaintances/customers/whatever would so much as speak to me. And I was CHURNING with ideas and the need to express, communicate, learn, dialog, "get it". At least this guy was opening a dialog, and I went off. ("His-story is still HIS-story, not HER-story! Black MEN had the vote before white WOMEN had the vote, so if you are lookin at me like I'M the oppressor, then you are doing just what ronald raygun wants, because as long as you and I out here in the street fighting each other, we aren't getting together to do anything about what is happening to all of us by those with the REAL power," etc. etc.)

I will admit that over the ensuing weeks, many people came in to the store to apologize for the weirdness right after the speech. "I don't know what I was thinkin. You get all confused." Rasta, some of these people are still my friends. But after that speech, for a moment, they weren't sure if they could be black and true to convictions, and still talk to - not some random white person - someone they had developed some kind of a relationship with.

And don't come to me with "the women who did show up were embraced, " because they STILL didn't want the women to come. You said you went to hear Khalid.
He did not last long at the top of the NOI cause he had his own views and not necessarily those of the Nation.

It was time fe wi fi stand up and commit to never leave our sisters, mothers, wives, aunts alone to do the work of what takes a village.
