After I ran up my credit card David cut them up. So with my credit card less self, I can't purchase the book online. This ticks me off because I can't get it at Chapters either.

I wrote down the names and authors of all the suggested Jamaican writers from a thread in the 'Best of Ja.com' and went wid me gladis self to Chapters.

By the time they had typed the last name into the computer and he turned to tell me 'UNFORTUNATELY...' for the 12th time or so, I just stormed out! I stormed back in to ask how long would it take for the books to get here if I ordered them. When he told me no less than 6 weeks, me storm off again.

Then he had the nerve to call after me, "And we would need you to pay upfront now"...

Sorry about your plight, Jackie!!!

I had to cut up my credit cards a while ago, so I can feel your PAIN!!! I use a debit card for my online purchases, that way I don't have to pay interest anymore. Have you tried the library for some of the books?

Awrite, mi done read the book, mi did like ow she hangle Hans's death, it was very touching. But mi is very confusid about wat an wat she gonna do wid di money. ANd is this wat it takes for somebody to make it? In this case, its not like she worked hard for years to get to a point where she could succeed. It really was about luck and being in di right cemetary at the right time. (Had she ben sleeping on the man's wife for real, and this coinkydink wasn't seen as more Divine)

I'm disappointed that it took so long to connect to mother and sibs, cause, even as poor as we be, don't we would buck up Ms. Matty, who second cousin live down di street from Mass Ran who is di babyfadda of di ooman dat live behind Mamma?
mamma probly coulden read, but still some neighbor coulda read a letter written to her. Mi nuh know. MI find the famly thing strange, but dat's part of wat to discuss I guess.

Oooh ooh, mi almost forgot. Did you guys notice how her inability to SAY THINGS or just to be open kept her back. I found this to be so annoying, but it’s also true of many ppl. For example, thje teacher at school, she never told the full truth about things. She might have gotten so much m,ore help if she had! The Jehovah Witniss lady,I think she wasn’t fully open with her either. The Jcan lady on the plane who was so nice, she lied and said she ahd friends there, when the womna might’ve suggested something/where for her. Lawd. And then she almost never told Hans about what brought her there. This was one of the only times dhe told all, and it worked in her favor.

What you guys think that is shyness, pride, shame?

ABOUT FAY'S inability to say things. I'm glad you picked up on that. I totally agree with you she should have been more open in especially in such tough situations. Fay was basically a poor, socially maladjusted child who had a very poor self esteem and she felt that by expressing herself she would be looked down upon or ridiculed.
Her family dynamics was indeed very strange. Her family was not close knit & maintaining a close relationship wasn't their priority.Even Miss Voy had no idea where her other older kids were who were grown and living someplace in the city

Hello Joyce, is your book available in Jamaican book stores?
I hope to buy a couple copies, because I am familiar with Greenwich Town or `Farm` as we in Jamaica call it.
Congratulations too on breaking through the ice into the world of novelist/author and getting your work on the market for all to read.
The new work on the Impotent husband sounds interesting too.
If the old wife gives him a try at a young flame she`s gonna lose him.... that is if he works it.

In response to purchasing Greenwichtown in Jamaican book stores. I am not sure if they have the book in stock but I do know that any book store in Jamiaca can order the book for you. OR you can order it yourself from Amazon.com and have it shipped to Jamaica.

"di right cemetary" Dang Tuffstuff you didn't have to go there. Although, I thought it was a charmed ending. I couldn't help but envy her a little.

As usual, I'm a day late and a dollar short but nevertheless I just finished this book!

I'm still a college student at age 37 and thank the God above I'm graduating in August and done with school. I want to be a part of the group and the book club then.

Hats off to Mrs. Palmer...I love the way she wrote the story in 1st person...it made you feel more like you were there with Fay all the while. What a great book...can't say enough good things about the style, and characters, very nicely written. I usually do not cry at fiction stories but when Cokie died I found tears streaming down my face! Wow - that was powerful...as she finally found a way to feed her babies and then for the umpteenth time it was taken from her again! Then the ending was very nice...a good ending. This story touched my heart a lot because it reminds me of the nice lady that I met in Jamaica...very poor, rotten teeth in the front simply becaue of poverty, 7 children, lives in a shack, but she is compassionate, greatful for life, and has a wonderful personality. The only thing different here is that my friend hasn't had such a happy ending. I try to help her some and say a prayer for her and her children every night as they've touched my heart!!!

Mrs. Palmer please let us know when your 2nd book is published & on the shelves. I wish you much success in your career. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
