Everytime mi guh bak home mi haffee mix wid dem cah mi aunt is big in foriegn affairs. suh dem ppl always a cum ova, ar wi a go ova, ar guh out.
But las time mi mek dem kno seh mi knaw heng wid nubaddy beside family. Mi aunt wasn't too happy wid mi bout mi a jackass cah mi nuh wan heng wid dem.
One time shi had a christmas dinnah and de place full up a high officials from different country, mi mean cyar a bring dem; mercades, bmw, evryone have a driver an dem country flag pan de two frontside a de cyar sigh----->sorry fe de run on sentence. Anyhow by time de dinnah done and de jokee joke dem staat all de upity ppl did deh at de front a de room an mi, mi madda, an a nex aunti from NY and de servants did outside a laff affa dem. It is even wuss when yuh start guh a fe dem restaurant. Cah mi Aunt's job is also to entertain ppl when the come to de country. She was very instrumental in bringing the queen to Jamaica earlier dis year. But when shi cyaar wi up a mountain top tuh sum a dem restaurant weh mi nuh tink ppl even kno bout, dem treat wi like seh a wi belong een de kitchen. The answer to your questions lie right here on the boards in the most pretentious way. Read between the lines, decipher who says what and the language they use to say it and you will have your answer of who thinks they are upper class.

In reality, there are no upper class in JA per se. There definitely are a whole lot of pretenders though.

rehab`,I dont think language necessarily determines a persons class,sometimes thats plain good education.however,money does to some extent,
a lot of otherwise "lower class" folks has been known to elevate themselves due to the acquisition of wealth,they invariably move to "middle class" neighborhoods and generally mix in the company of middleclass folks......as for this board,I think the accusation is invalid,the majority of people on this board communicate in a mixture of patois and/or english depending on the level/seriousness or otherwise of the topic.

Naaa! That's not what I was saying! Apologies for the misunderstanding, but the last thing I was trying to imply, is that the language dictates the class. Basically, the choice of words which has nothing to do with patois or the queens choice is what dictates where the person thinks they fall on the scale. It has everything to do with the condescendingway in which some people address others. The pretentious uppidities sometimes expose themselves in that manner is what I was saying.

I don't think that a person is classified by how they talk as much as by what they say.

Class is not classified the same all over. Class in America is different to class in England.

I take it that the class system in Jamaica is modelled after that of England. Is it???
