Norman Manley I have been told was not the founder of the PNP. Because of his popularity as a lawyer, he was asked to lead.
Founders of the PNP were OT Fairclough amd Crab Nethersole.

very interesting point. its very interesting, because he (Manley) led the PNP, he would take sole credit-and you havent been misled.
but there are a couple other names that should be brought to light such as Hedley Jacobs, and Wilfred Domingo, and Frank Hill.
1938 was a hard year, workers in the sugar industry, dock workers and unemployed people protested for better pay and better work condition. Michael manley was Mediator.
OT Fairclough did alot of the leg work and organized.
on September 18, 1938 the PNP was launched at the Ward theatre.
these men were considered "co-founders"-but one must give credit where credit is due, because without these men, it would not have been possible

Great thread. He had a vision that all of Jamaica..ie citizens would get at least a High School education. Oh how he must be turning in his grave to realise that the vision died; or so it seems: for political and other reasons.

I must say also that he was a great orator and one of the best lawyers in the Caribbean, if not the best.

I remember people use to talk about two famous cases that he defended abroad. The first case was that of a Jamaican, charged with murder in England. He went to England and defended the case in Old Bailey Court. The defendant got off scotch free. He proved that the victim had been stabbed by a lefted person and the defendant was right-handed.

The second case was a patent violation between two auto makers, a Canadian and a US company. I believe the Canadian company was the defunct Maple Leaf.
