and it would seem that tourists are not put off from visiting jamaica because of these activities,indeed it would appear that there is a demand for bookings to jamaica because of this.

neutral..it's not just the tourists engaging in 'sleazy' behaviour..it's also the Jamaicans and the image of the nude weddings in the down-market tabloids do not give Jamaica the positive or upscale and wholesome image. Let me explain one thing, families on vacation spend more $$ than couples, and US kid, surveys have shown, have an impact on where the family takes it's vacation.

The Christian council indeed has it's work cut out for them!!

Its already been discussed how tourists are put off from going to the main tourist towns and even the whole of Jamaica. There is a market for sex, but most people going to Jamaica are not going for that (I hope) and therefore do not like being hounded by jiggaloos and prostitutes. And its not whats happening in the hotels, its whats happening on the beaches, in the sea on the street.

so, you're saying that because of the return visitor, the revenue from tourism is going to increase even if the exchange of $$$ is not direct from person to person. there. i had to put it out there like that. but, who's to say that the visitors would not return anyway, without the expectation of free love and "sex tourism" [img]/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]

Homosexuals don't, for the most part, spend their $$ in Jamaica...they know they aren't welcome. At least the ones I know...I do know one couple that rented a villa near Ochi once but they hardly ever left the yard.

I want to clarify that I am aware of people that avoid Jamaica because of being constantly approached by hookers/gigolos - NOT because of what goes inside the gates of Hedo. (and yes, I guess I have seen their party boat too....so I take that back about them coming out dressed!)

I have NOT been to any of the "go-go" clubs that I am vaguely aware exist in and around Negril (and I guess all over) but I've been to a "regular" disco and saw a kind of dancing that I'd never seen in my years of going to NYC discos!

I do think there is a HUGE distinction to be made between nudists and swingers. Hedo may have both but there are many people who just like to be naked...not a sexual thing at all.

Hedo 2, has more repeat customers than any other resort in the carribean. I have been there but it is not my cup of tea. Nyer was correct when she said some like the idea of being on the beach without their suits and nothing sexual in nature at all. Hedo has gone the route of being more decadent. I've read on other sites that hookers actually work the resort at certain times. This has gone to far. To each his own but I say this is inviting trouble.

yes the homosexuals spend more $$$, but that isn't the market that Jamaica is going after. As you know, there isn't any welcome mat out for them.

The Christian councils have power in influencing their congregations, and their mandate is to go out into the community and assist in any way that they can. They also have power in the education they give in church schools, religions have plenty power and influence, they need to exert it more.

The point is that the "Church" does still have some power in Jamaica... they have driven off the most traveling group in the world.

The key solution is reducing unemployment. If people have jobs that provide for their, and their families', needs then crime declines and living standards go up.

I don't think that Jamaica needs "cleaning up," in the sense that you mean. A moral cleansing. The Christian message in Jamaica is the same old moralizing and proslytizing that you see everywhere.

The cleaning up that I see is about wrestling away the money from the handfull of families that control the wealth of Jamaica. I don't see that happening.
