Look, if you guys keep calling this a battle, it will remain so. If we keep talking about how bad it is, it will never get better.

How about: "Be prepared to defend your opinions, no matter where they originate."

Or: "Be prepared that others may not always agree with you."

If we're expecting insults, it's easier to perceive everything as an insult.

Christains do very well when question is viewed as an attack.
The funny thing is they forget that more people have died in wars sponsered and about Christianity.

...and on this Board more Christians have been invovled in the attacking and calling out people on thier beliefs while avoiding or failing to answer a question!

TG, I don't think placing blame or taking sides will get us anywhere. It's not "the Christians" or "the atheists" or "the purple people eaters." It's all of us, trying to learn how to have civil discourse.

Now, anyone have any more comments on the topic of this thread? I do think it's a worthwhile subject--that is, how do people who believe in the Christian God (or any other) reconcile the positive messages of their religions with the brutality of war? For that matter, how do we who normally believe in the goodness of human nature reconcile that with what we're seeing?

In some ways, it's the same question, really. How do we reconcile essentially affirming life philosophies with such death and destruction?

This is not about taking blame or casting.
This is facts...Religious Wars have killed more people and more wars have been fought for and about Christianity.

Noticed that two persons who sought to gripe in this thread about general conditions in this forum, decided that they were not interested in the subject matter, just the opportunity to gripe, they are in fact professed christians!

Now unless they come up with some Q&A then I will hold my ground!

That seems to imply that Israel is the only nation that God favors, hence my question. And if you say that, I am probing into that thought a little deeper.....what makes you think that? You must have some biblical basis for that assertion.

This is getting really hilarious! So now sistagirl and I are griping? Please! The fact of the matter if that some of the "arguments" in this very thread are the same retreaded ones in just about every thread to do with Christianity. Whether or not this is true, I fail to see the productivity of rehashing this argument everytime there is a thread to do with our faith! IMO, the best response to stuff like that is sometimes no response, and I will employ that thinking at times of my own choosing.

The fact of the matter is that whether one chooses to believe or not believe is a matter of individual choice. There is absolutely nothing wrong with respecting my right to choose what to believe, in the very same way I respect your right to not believe in any organized religion. Neither position makes you or I any more or any less better than the other. As I have long maintained, if all the Christians here and every where are wrong in our beliefs, we haven't lost anything. From my point of view, we have the best of both worlds - so to speak.

As for the subject matter itself, is there something wrong with simply deciding to read what others have to say? I wasn't aware that was an offence at all. There are other Christians who are stating their views, and as expected, some of the criticisms are pretty much the same stuff I have read everywhere else. I do not carry a burden for Christianity, so trying to lay the blame at "my" door for what you perceive to be the wrongs committed by, and in the name of the religion, is a waste of your time.

Well this war has nothing to do with God, so why should He favor U.S. or Iraq? If, on the other hand, some Iraqis decide to go start boming Israelis, then all of a sudden, He would take sides(against Iraq in this case, obviously). But otherwise, this is entirely man's war, it has nothing to do with God, and vice versa.
