Wait! Is a St. Mary topic dis.
Anybody know of a place called Cane Heap?
Warrick Castle a property owned by the Marsh`s and situated near to Retreat was my bestest place in St. Mary.
River to yard, yard to river. Swimming and catching janga under the river stone was some of the things we loved to do as boys in the parish of St. Mary.
The rich aroma of cerasee bush growing wild was another St. Mary thing.

Mi memba when mi a did pickni and spent a summer in St. Mary at my uncle's home. We used to go "janga" fishing in the river. The men who worked on my uncle's property would cook every day inah "kerosene pan", I can see it bubbling over now with the ackees on top so they don't get too soft. Mi also memba when dem used to put a stone on the cover to prevent the food from falling out the pan, it was so full. as a Kingstonian mi nuh have much to add to dis topic as mi was only a holiday-time visitor to the country...summer holidays.
britisha, mi always wanda bout dem "kerosene" pan dat dem cook inna..is really kerosene oil did in ah dem? mi always wanted to believe it was coconut oil.
mi memba di containers were aluminium but if kerosene did in deh den dat is pizinous
AG, the containers were actually made from tin, not aluminum. I am not sure why they call them kerosene pan, you are right, they usually contained cooking oils, lard, etc.
Those pans were also used to bile white clothes over wood fya in de back yawd.
Some folks used to bleach de whites on a zinc sheet with the full rays of the sun beaming down.
Nowadays, plug in, push buttons, abracadabra, clean clothes.

Some country ppl used to carry water in those pans as well. Taking note of Bandi's comment.
