Just thought I'd throw out here that most people I know who home-school (Christians who do not want their children in "godless public schools" as opposed to those more hippie-types who want time with their kids or whatever) do so in the context of an association of some sort.

So not only do the kids attend church and Sunday School and socialize there, they also regularly get together with other like-minded families for field trips, art classes, etc.

However, most of the kids I know that are home-schooled never enter public schools at all, they home-school right to college, if they go.

Hey there Musa, I was reading your response again and had some thoughts.

I have had the priveledge of having a wonderful Muslim friend, and he had invited a couple of us over to his house for dinner with his family. He was from the Middle East. We had all met at work and had become very good friends. Not one of us was a Muslim. In fact, we were mostly Christians or non-christians-of no particular faith at all. . We watched some movies from his culture, ate some middle eastern food his wife cooked, we played with his children, listened to their music and listened to his endless stories of when he was living in Pakistan. It was simply a great time.

Our emphasis was not religion and that was not on his agenda either. We have had discussions on religion before but we had other times for religious talks. Now, wasn't the time.

I simply wonder at the manner in which our perspective on the value of human beings changes during times of great disasters and suffering. It's in those times we choose to connect with others on the common grounds of humanity. People do not remember what religion you are affiliated with or what color you are. The value of the human being takes precedence at such times.

It can be quite a challenge in normal every day life to keep this perspective all of the time..
