on the topic of nicknames,there was one fellow that had the unfortunate nickname of "simon cowtail"it seems he had a taste for beef that day and decided to help himself to maas simon`s beef........while the beef was still walking
yes,thats right,the hapless fellow decided to cut the tail off the cow whilst it was grazing [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img] needless to say he wasnt very popular for a very long time in the village,least of all by the cow [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

one of the funniest things that happened to me though was once when I was about 6 years old,I had this boil on my thigh that was giving me a hell of a lot of discomfort.

in jamaica there is a superstition that if yu pee,pee on a piece of firewood and throw it over your shoulder it will cure boils.

so little me promptly grabbed this piece of firewood from out the kitchen,and walked to a quiet discreet spot and commenced to pee,pee,pon de piece a wood, [img]/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img] throw de sinting over mi shoulder and walked away whistling in anticipation of a quick cure [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

five minutes later there was an almighty fire burning down de people dem sugar cane field silly me had not entirely doused the fire with de pee,pee and had throw it right into de canefield [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

all now nobody no know seh a me dweet, [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

an de rhaatid boil still tek time fe heal,a eediat superstition dat [img]/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img]

mi neva get fi see much "excitement" growing up since ah we one as family did live inna fi we yawd [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] so mi nuh have no story fi share.

mi feel like mi miss out cause all di stories mi woulda like fi share is weh odders tell me..mi neva experience dem first hand...anyway....

when mi went to country to visit mi G/mother one summer, mi Cuz name Johnny did tell me seh one night one family member who did name James Lattie was walking home drunk one night pon a road weh nuh have no street light ..all him had was a bottle torch..one owl (patoo) was in di tree and di owl seh *whoooooooooo* to which James answered *ah me James Lattie from John's Hall (Clarendon) sah* the owl repeated the whooooooooooo which i guess did sound like ah whoooooo yuh and den James get mad and seh Man yuh *bleep* bleep*!
