So I do believe our inability to do as Christ did is due to a combination of factors; not walking consistently - if any at all - in the anointing, not spending enough time in prayer and fasting, doubt (as Jedi so rightly pointed out), not fully understanding our position and authority in Christ, among others

Got to thinking about this this morning. I believe one of the hardest things is rising above the plain of our concious experiences to truly meditating on all that being a heir of the Kingdom of God means to us here on earth. I really believe it is more than just distractions or simple doubt, it is almost mind boggling to the extent that as Paul says "now we see darkly through a glass," I was really contemplating, what if and then realizing that but it is . I imagine each and every day of our lives we need to practice not just saying but believing... can you practice believing? that you are and therefore you can do all things through Christ. No see we spend too much energy on rote memorization of scripture...we need to think each word into being into actuality as it is. I AM A CHILD OF THE KING THEREFORE I AM RICH just as an example.
Glimpses of glory is what I call it. I want more than a glimpse every now and then I don't know about the rest of you. Good thought provoking topic (((CEW)))

Excellent point. One of the incredible things I 'discovered' while studying the life of Christ was He spent so much time in the scriptures that He found Himself there. According to Luke, after Jesus read from the book of Esaias, "...he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. To the woman at the well, in response to her: "I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.", He said: "I that speak unto thee am he." (John4:25,26). I really do believe we need to see ourselves as the scriptures say we are, and not stop seeking until as you say, we are able to think each word into being.

As I was walking into the service station this morning this thread came to mind plus the thread by Kimoni and I couldn't think of what to say to Kimoni to adequately explain how Christianity rises above mere religion and then it came to me.
We are a peculiar people, we are born again, we are a different race, we are like the Jews chosen of God to become conformed to His image WE ARE all of that and more But my mind just couldn't even begin to fathom it and as it were it was like looking through an opening ...through a looking glass for a moment and then I just stood still. All of the time from walking into the service station to filling up my gas tank I was thinking then I got into the car and I realized something it was as though I had just been born, for I suddenly realized who I really am as though for the first time. So I thought it is more than merely believing for that I do but it is submitting yourself to the power to become. Too much my mind screamed but I gave God thanks for a moment ...a glimpse into glory. Wow!

Excellent, excellent thread CEW. I remember a sermon in which Pastor Peter told us that in order for us to do great things we need to be constantly filling up with the Holy Spirit. As long as we stay under the annointed we can do all things through Jesus Christ.

John 14:26  But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Compry: I am glad you are enjoying this thread as I do think the question posed is one that I will be mulling over for a while. We have talked about the shortcomings of some of the disciples, yet in Luke 9 we read: "Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases." In Luke 10 we read: "After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come...And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you...And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name."

Check out Mark 16:16, "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover., and John 14:12, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." We hold God's word to be true so it stands to reason that we are sadly lacking.

I have to admit that as I studied, I found myself thinking, "I want that!" Lord knows, it is high time that the power of God be manifested through those of us who are called to be a light in the midst of the darkness.

John 15:4 & 5 states "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.  I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Edited to add: It is so simple. We simply abide in Him through the Holy Spirit, walk in faith and we'll be able to accomplish things beyond our natural minds.

So what do you think is preventing you from having that or is it the first time that you have desired it?

I must honestly say that when the question came to me "what would you like as a gift?" I asked God for the gift of prophecy. The amazing thing is that when we asked God to use us or we said to Him "here I am Lord send me." Even though we are filled with so many flaws and imperfections God still uses us inspite of them in ways that many times we can't even see. Letting go or yeilding to the power of God I believe is what is required to truly manifest His Spirit at work in us.

First of all, when I speak of "wanting that" it is wanting to get to the place where manifesting the works of Christ become second nature. The successes that has been a part of my experience pales in comparison to the magnitude of what the study uncovered as being possible. One could say that I was content with the mercy drops but now I am anxious to experience the showers. Maybe that is why the Holy Spirit directed my thoughts in this direction. By showing me what is possible, I can strive for the next level instead of being satisfied with what has happened so far.

Naturally, the successes are all God's doing and I would not recount them and remotely give the impression of things done by me. The Spirit of God can take any willing and 'qualified' person and use them to manifest any gift, be it the gift of prophecy, tongues, healing, discernment, or whatever.

The ability to speak the word once and someone becomes healed, blind eyes open, the deaf hear, and the dumb speak, is something I covet. My desire/goal is to do whatever it takes to position myself to be a vessel the Holy Spirit can use to manifest those gifts, especially in these days.

But it is easy. We just need to stop putting limitations on the abilities that we've been given.

I was going to send this to you via email but here goes. A very close friend of mine found out there were complications with her unborn baby and she did not want the doctor to operate. Needless to say she was worried for months. I invited her to visit my church so the elders, etc. could pray for her. She came but she wanted me to pray for her. She was my best friend at the time and all I could think of was her baby being healed. I forgot about doubts and fears, laid my hands on her, prayed for her and the baby. After I finished praying with her, she told me that she felt something and she knew the baby was going to be OK. I had no doubts that the baby was going to be fine. To the amazement of her doctor, she gave birth to a healthy child.

Did I accomplish that? No. I simply allowed the Holy Spirit to do so.

1 CORINTHIANS 1:26-2:5

Because the apostle Paul understood the limitations of human understanding, he used word pictures to illustrate spiritual concepts. In several letters, Paul wrote about being “alive in Christ.” He pointed out that before Christ rescued us, we were spiritually dead. But once we received Him as Savior, we became alive in Christ. (Romans 6:11) He wanted us to realize we have a new freedom, a new nature, and a new standard of conduct. To show this, he used two word pictures: circumcision and baptism. (Colossians 2:9-17) Neither one presents the complete picture, but together they provide a starting point for us to grasp the glorious foundational truth of being alive in Christ.

If we use human reasoning to understand a spiritual truth like this one, we often become confused. Only through the teaching of the Holy Spirit can we begin to comprehend its full meaning. Besides, God’s living Word is meant to be experienced. We can know the fact that Jesus has given us a new nature, but when we experience this new nature and the freedom it brings, we discover what “alive in Christ” truly means.

Ponder the examples Paul chose— baptism and circumcision. Set aside human logic, and depend on the Holy Spirit for understanding. Believe that you are a new creation—that the old nature has gone and the new one has come. (2 Corinthians 5:17) Practice what you learn. Spiritual joy will fill your being as you experience the truth of the revealed mystery, “fully alive in Christ.”

My defintion of 'qualified' may not hold up against that of the Holy Spirit's, so seeing He is the one who decides through whom the gifts will be manifested, I could not being to tell you. God often uses the simple things - and people - much to our surprise so who can say? Mark 11:22-26 intrigues me and open a lot of possibilities. As believers, our responsibility is to live the life to which we called, walk consistently in the anointing, and position ourselves in faith to do that which the scriptures authorizes us to do. Once we get to that point, I believe we are 'qualified' for use as the Holy Spirit sees fit.

I happened to open this conversation and I have found it to be especially for me and I feel that the subject started by CEW is speaking to me.

It breaks down religion and speaks of a personal relationship, one with accountability to Christ rather than just association with an organization thatsends a mixed message. I look forward to reading theses conversations each day. I appreciate the inputs from others on this subject! Thank you,
