Re: Question to Ponder...Jesus' Ability - Our Inability
Notes from yesterday's sermon at my church titled "Strength, Manifestation, Refreshing (Kingdom Signs".
“3 Strengthen the weak hands, And make firm the feeble knees. 4 Say to those who are fearful-hearted, ‘Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, With the recompense of God; He will come and save you.’ 5Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. 6 Then the lame shall leap like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb sing. For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert. 7 The parched ground shall become a pool, And the thirsty land springs of water; In the habitation of jackals, where each lay, There shall be grass with reeds and rushes.” Isaiah 35:3-7
“The Kingdom of God is near you.” Luke 10:9
“…the Kingdom of God is within you.” Luke 17:21
“For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves.” Col 1:13
1. Strength
God has asked us to minister in this world. It is never an issue of strength it is an issue of will.
"We can if we will." - Samuel Mills
“Strengthen the feeble hands, steady the knees that give way; say to those with fearful hearts, ‘Be strong, do not fear:” Isaiah 35:3,4a
“Be strong and courageous. Don’t be terrified; don’t be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Josh 1:9
“Consider now, for the Lord has chosen you to build a temple as a sanctuary. Be strong and do the work.” 1 Chron 28:10
“Be strong, all you people of the land declares the Lord, and work. For I am with you.” Hag 2:4
“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith, be men of courage; be strong.” 1 Cor. 16:13
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.” Eph. 6:10
“Judge for yourselves whether it’s right in God’s
sight to obey you rather than God. For we can’t help speaking about what we’ve seen and heard.”
Acts 4:19,20
2. Manifestations
“Then the eyes of the blind will be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy.” Isaiah 35:5,6a
“Go back and report to John what you hear and see: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.” Matt 11:4,5
“Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through Him.” Act 2:22
“…by the power of signs and miracles, through the
power of the Spirit.” Romans 15:19
“…by signs, wonders and various miracles and gifts
of the Holy Spirit distributed according to His will.” Heb 2:4
i) Miracles
- Mighty works
- Evidences of the power of God operating among
His people
ii) Signs
- events that point to the One in whose name and power they are performed
iii) Wonders
- Events that leave us in amazement
- largely because God has done something unexpected
3. Refreshing
“Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert. The burning sand will become a pool, the thirsty ground bubbling springs.” Isaiah 35:6,7a
