1. How does one get chicken pox. I am told it's airborne...How does one get immunity?

2. What are the dos and dont's of chicken pox

3. How does one get ricd of pock marks
(besides surgery)

do drink benedryl liquid (for the itchy skin)
do bathe in aveeno or other oatmeal concoctions

[/qb] It is a virus.. so catch it when u are young. There is a chicken pox vaccine available but I have heard some children do get the chicken pox from the vaccine. Best to get it when young & done.

My friend just got it...he's 28.

He has pock marks and is fretting to pieces as to whether the marks will go away. Poor ting.

Does this thing (the pox) have 'seasons'? Is it more common at particular times of the year...>>

I got it as an adult. My american friends teased me mercilessly about it as I did not get it as a child (not common in JA ) but only had a total of 3 pox because I was diagnosed very quickly (an MD friend of mine alerted me to what I had) and recommended that I go to the emergency room to get de prescript asap (i was out of town on business at the time). Spent 7 days in quarantine (aside those who got infected on the train ride home- for which I am deeply sorry) [img]/forums/images/graemlins/70361-embarassed.gif[/img]

Rasta.b got chicken pox last xmas, he was 47.
Got it from hugging the grand daughters, that brought it home from school.
Use Aveeno cream to stop the scratching, if the sore is big, it will leave a scar.
Thankfully rasta.b only had a few bad spots, and are not noticeable.
Sorry for your friend, tell him, good times are just around the corner!

I will pass the advice to him.

He's afraid to come outside...some of these little spots have healed and left HOLES in his face [img]/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

(((HannaH))) he must have scratched / picked at them to leave holes

When Cody had them, I had some kind of lanolin cream to put on his pox, plus the benadryl cream... he hardly ever scratched - and he has virtually no noticeable marks (plus I found that by scratching 'the circle around the pox' and not the blister itself, he had some added relief.


With the warmer weather coming... your friend may be a little more uncomfortable -so he should dress lighter / keep cooler

He told me he was not itching [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img] Maybe he scratched in his sleep [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Seriously now, what does he do about the holes? He's into client service and is often the first contact people make with his organization. He's worried about negative reactions.

Mi sarry fi him. Good thing he had already chosen his life partner.

((HannaH)) I believe there is a process a dermatologist (or cosmetic surgeon?) can do... as done with those suffering from extreme acne scarring

MICRODERMABRASION (ULTRAPEEL)

What is MICRODERMABRASION?

Microdermabrasion is a procedure that uses air driven crystals aimed at the skin to gently clean and remove layers on the top of the skin. Blemishes and some unwanted features of aging can be improved by multiple treatments. This method of treatment avoids the harsher effects of chemical peels and laser peels, as only the top layers of skin are removed gently. A microdermabrasion session requires less down-time than chemical peels.


Is it Painful?

Microdermabrasion causes minimal discomfort unless it is done for scars or striae. Local anaesthetic may be used. e.g. EMLA applied at least 1 hour prior to the procedure.

How Many Treatments are Necessary?

Microdermabrasion is a gradual process and requires multiple treatments. Superficial conditions may require 4 to 6 treatments. Deeper problems will require more treatments. There is no limit to the number of treatments that can be performed if necessary. It is important that a one-week recovery time be allowed for healing between microdermabrasion sessions.

What are the Possible Side-Effects of Microdermabrasion?

Minimal temporary redness or flushing may be present after Microdermabrasion. Your face will look polished with some glowing areas. If treatment is for scars, striae, or dark pigment, the areas may have some pin-point crusting and scabbing. To minimize down-time, we have to use multiple peels to get rid of the unwanted deeper problems. These areas should be cleansed and an antibiotic cream applied. Make-up may be used to cover this area. Healing is fast because the wounding is very superficial. Sunblocks must be used.

How Do I get Started?

Consultations are required before microdermabrasions are performed. You should schedule a series of treatments with one week recovery time between each treatment. Deeper treatments require two weeks. Microdermabrasion appointments require that we schedule time, equipment, and personnel to perform the procedure. There is a $25.00 charge for the consultation visit which will be deducted from the total cost if future microdermabrasion sessions are booked. There is a $50.00 charge for missed appointments, or appointments not cancelled with 48 hours notice. If there is an emergency or illness, please have a doctor's note. If you are late, we may have to reschedule.

Costs

The cost of microdermabrasion is $150.00 + G.S.T. for each treatment. The recommended number of treatments is 5, and the total cost will be $750.00 + G.S.T. for 5 treatments. When total cost is paid in advance there is 1 free treatment for a total of 6.

((HannaH)) although don't quote me on the prices (I just left them there to give your friend an idea of the potential costs involved -although the info is from a different province)

I did work with a guy who had this done, over a few months, and it did make a very noticeable improvement on his severe acne


Note also... if your friend is not caucasian... I'd want to ask some specific questions about potential scarring (if any) or final product
