Good idea. I can't understand how ppl. can go from a hot place like the Caribbean to live in Canada. I was born in the cold (New England), but never could stand it and escaped the first minute I could.

Must have been P.M. Louis St Laurent. A very close friend of mine [he sang at my Dad's funeral] is part of the 'history'. His Mom came to Canada around the mid 50's as part of the very first group of Jamaican immigrants...called 'Domestics'.

It was a 'test' to see if Jamaicans could acclimatize to our weather and customs...AND...if Canadians would accept the people of Jamaica into Canada...particularly Toronto. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]

The folks from JA passed the 'test' with flying colours [as you might expect] and the rest is history...for people from ALL of the islands.

The conservatives always tried to shut immigration down...[diefenbaker, stansfield, mulroney, campbell for 5 minutes]...Then the Liberals would return to power and open up the gates again.

So...while Louis and Pierre and the Liberals deserve some credit...at least 95% has to go to that first group of Jamaicans.

New England is more north than the most populated parts of Canada.
So unno did havee coldah den most a wi.
Places like Chicago and places further west have much worse winters than we.
Ever since GB has been unno pres places like NY, MD, NC etc have had worse winters and more snow den any southern pawt a canada. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]

Sharks of the Bay

Sharks! While the mention of this word instills feelings of fear and loathing in most people, it is something they also associate with tropical waters. Nothing could be further from the truth! Sharks are found right here in our own Bay of Fundy! While most people will spend their entire lives and not see one, they are here, swimming silently below the surface. A large shark however, the basking shark, is often seen slowly swimming at the surface with its huge dorsal fin riding high in the water. There are many other types of sharks found in our waters. Another shark frequently encountered is the porbeagle shark. To the untrained eye, this may be mistaken for a small Great White shark, which is also found in the Bay of Fundy. A large Great White was caught in the Bay several years ago and many have been sighted since then. What is likely the fastest swimming shark, the mako, is frequently found in our waters. These are only a few of the many species that are found in our waters. Sharks are magnificant animals which have been around for 400 million years!
