Nayga is not so much a person but a description of a `low life`.
Hence, the guilt or the comfort the user feels when saying the word, `nayga`.
When someone bores and dips without warning in front of my car in traffic without any sign of indication, sometimes rather than cuss RC or BC, me seh, dyam nayga.
Now that coming out of a white mouth like mine will put me in the category of the whiteman police i was trying to illustrate above.
But I am Jamaican and I equate myself with Jamaicans and my foul mouth may say what my ears hear other Jamaicans say, whether its BC, RC, Nayga, Blouse and Skirt or whatever the feeling of expression that comes from beneath the skin when hassled.

But in a comforting and more civil enviroment than on the streets, it is most accomodating not to use the nayga word. After all Stanley and the Turbines once sang, "Leave my kysiloo, leave my kysiloo, mi dont want a nayga man come trouble my kysiloo..." and Stanley is very much a man like me, a Jamaican.

In america some rappers or guys on the street are comfortable using N__on one another. So like a gun, it is how you use it and you dont have to be committing murder when using a gun.

When Jamaican police can abuse their own people they are put to maintain law as against in Britain or America where if the same was done by the police on a minority the call on racism is profound. The issues that make a whiteman police abuse a blackman civilian is insulated into a racial thing as against where in Jamaica its same race abusing same race.
The reasons why a whiteman police beat a blackman civilian do not neccessarily always mean that there is a racial hatred involved in the abuse.
It can be a weilding of power, an abuse of power.
It doesnt mean there is a racist involvement always when black and white conflicts occurr.
To back this up, white police maybe abusing white civilians too in America and Britain.

I really dont know the statistics. But I am sure it exists as there exists parental abuse amongst the races where the father might have a heavy hand on their children in some cases wher the very police are called in to quell.

It would be inappropriate for someone of my complexion to use either word. I rarely find it necessary to use such words.

In the USA, African Americans often call each other "niggah" in a comraderly fashion. I have never heard Jamaicans use "nayga" that way. You see, niggah is a derogatory term for a black person in general. Nayga is not -- it refers to very specific behaviors that are associated with "black" behaviors.

Unless the usage of nayga has changed significantly over the past few decades, I don't think anyone, noh eben ole nayga, a goh put up wid yu call dem nayga eena Jamdung. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

P.S. For the record, I don't associate any behaviors with color. But let's not fool ourselves, most Jamaicans certainly do. [/qb]

I am not going to argue with you about how cool the word "niggah" is amongst African-American. Backdessoso, If I ever researched anything, I researched the word n'igger. So refer back to my first response. You might just mash smaddi toes same way dem can do you. Imagine when dem just say dat word and after words smaddi get lynched. To my way of thinking, NAYGA is a word best used privately and among one's peers when describing other Jamaicans. From my own experience, and learning from my elders, the word is aptly applied to those considered to be of "low class" poor mannerisms and mostly "black"... The expressions describing certain groups or individuals are the usual ones, such as "dem a ole naayga", "all a dem deh people a ole naygas" or him or she is "a ole nayga"... The way it's used, definetely reflects a class bias in our society.

It is important to know that sophisticated Jamaicans never call those whom they consider as such, "ole naygas" to their faces... In a funny kind a way, many of those who would be so classified, are aware that they fall into that category; so depending on the individual, it could be a touchy or explosive situation if you step over the line. Yet it is not uncommon to hear within and among certain groups, the cussing and calling of dem one annadas "ole naygas" unrestrained!.. Go figgah!

A negro. The term is avoided by whites, and resented by negroes if used of them by whites. As used among negroes it is a term more or less derogatory, commonly implying extra blackness, backwardness, laziness, stupidity, etc.
