I am 100% black and grew up in a neighbourhood in Jamaica where we had white neighbours with a prominent name, who were the only white family in the community. They had three sons and a daughter, who were my friends (platonic). The people in the neighbour didn't like the friendship and would past racial comments whenever they saw me. The men were the worse and went to the extent of telling my father what they thought I was doing with the white boy dem and he flipped out. The reason for their behaviour: I was young, I looked good, didn't have a boyfriend (I was in spite of what they thought still a virgin) and did not hang around.

Funny thing is, the daughter of the white family had a boyfriend who was black, for whom she later had a child and one of the brothers later married a black woman, with whom he's still together after many many years, although the parents probably didn't like it.

I hate racism! Everyone should be free to choose who he or she wants to be with, or to befriend.

However, when it comes to the dating/marrying issue, I dont see
why this is surprise. Majority ruling, especially older folks of most races, dont like seeing their offspring marry outside their race. The Chinese would be no exception to the rule. Preservation of race/culture is tandemount to many.

I am Jamaican born and rebel blood runs in me. This passion that we of African blood are born with sometimes blinds us. Blacks have been in China for thousands of years not just now, notably during the Tang and Ming Dynasties. We were traders, soldiers, all forms of business men and yes some were slaves as the practice was a common one in small numbers. The article lacks jounalistic impatiality, the title is a dead give away to the bias. If you have not guessed, we live in CHINA. You can hardly breathe without the authorities having somebody take your picture. These people were well documented, photographed, researched to the max, we are in CHINA. These people suffered through a war with England that forced them to buy and consume opium. So understand the sensitivity of the people. They never enslaved us by the millions. If these drug dealers and buyers were all white, what would you say? And to get somebody white to put down the Chinese is playing the Devil's tune. White folk will not want us to align with our natural allies. Africa and China have a mutual need for each other to assist in development. About the tiger underwear being shown when the African heads of state were here, how ridiculous can you get. The writer of the article has absolutely no understanding of the Chinese. First, it was probably a commercial for sexy underwear, I might buy one. Second, the Chinese no matter how they feel about you, if they invite you "to dem yard" the would NEVER insult you, not even in the slightest way. Please grow up and let go this everyone out to get us attitude. IN America, I know there is an inbred hatered for blacks in the system, so there I could understand the feeling. We in JAmaica persecuted the Chinese almost to extermination in JAmaica. Wrong is wrong and the death penalty was not administered for drug selling and buying. No forty odd bullets for pulling out your keys as in NYC. I found nothing but help from the Chinese and not just in Beijing or Shanghai but a dozen others. So much so that I was able to open the first Jamaican restaurant in China. Understand their culture and you will do better. As a JAmaican I remember when some of the criminals would grow dreadlocks (still do) and SAY "dem a Rasta" while still comitting the crimes and when caught say "a so dem treat Rasta." Be careful of not falling into that trap. Passion is good, temper it with knowledge.
