ah, amanda, i understand completely. i only lasted a year, but you have held out so long and have done such a good job.

even that little 12 months i will never regret. i learned so much about myself during that time and i hold those lessons dear to me.

i am sorry your dream did not work out as well as you wished, but you did do something many would not have the guts to do. and, for that, i salute you.

i have been outta jamaica (as far as living there) for almost 6 years, so i hold my tongue as i do not feel competent to answer questions from ppl on this board about moving to and living in jamaica.

guess i will be happy to have you back and hear more about your adventures.

kinda sorry now i left hotlanta almost 5 years ago.

amanda...i've been reading your posts & know you've taken some heat about some of the things you've said regarding your difficulties in jamaica.....but it's been evident to me that you've just been an honest reporter of struggles.

many of us have a dream of spending more time in jamaica....since i'm old, my dream involves retirement & MAY be realistic....i'll see when i get there...lolol.

just want to thank you for sharing your life in an honest, informative manner.....blessings to you.

I went back and spend three Months, to look around to retire(over 65)Checked out Medical,not good if you are not rich, Things are expensive for a retiree, People are rude to older folks and you always have to look behind.(much too stressful)Places in the country is awsome, and lovely but you have to have a car. Expensive to maintain. I must admit i went back looking for it to be better than the states. I returned with a different opinian.The dream was busted. Others may have a different take on it , i respect it.

I lasted nine years, probably five too many but as everyone says it was an experience I will never forget. Got to go to Sunsplash when it was still Sunsplash every year and see D.Brown winding up the show at dawn with the phrase, "Love and Hate Will Never Be Friends". No more Sunsplash, no more D.Brown but plenty of hate to go around, JA where’s the love?????

Indeed the work that must be done by those seeking to improve the quality of life in all of the Caribbean is monumental (but not impossible).

What`s real is that the overwhelming majority here, Jamaicans or non-Jamaicans have taken flight away from Jamaica whether being born here or lived here for a time.

Totally agree with the above statement. i always think about going back home to retire and or live but the unneccessary violence makes me ponder.
I have an aunt who return back home to live in Manchester,her husband always live in Jamaica travel only for vacation now and then but they have their own home and he is selfemploy not many who returns has that. She has all the 'extras' like wahing machine, jaccuzi etc. some people like to sugar coat what is like to return home and it is not good for everyone. for i know of other family member or friends or return home and still not doing so great

Amanda I applaud you living in Jamaica for this long and that was just a chapter in your life and you are goin on to the next.

Amanda....What can I say...you know I know exactly where you are coming from.

You have been and will continue to be an asset in this forum and I for one will miss having you there for live and on the spot commentary. BUT...stick around...I am sure I will need you still as it has now been 8 years since I threw in the towel and headed home myself.
