Of course, we have to do something to stop the killing. I don't know why Chelsea either but my friends wanted to go there but I did not have a problem since then. I will be there in December.

Sometimes being so can pay dividends. however, I must add, Politeness seems to work best with those who are able to appreciate both it and the bearer as one package. ROAD RAGE on Island too. Have you experienced the road rage in US? How about the lines for a drivers licese or tags at the DMV (Dept of Motor Vehicles). US needs to borrow some Island patience as US lines are just the same.
The crime is the same. (Not sure Island is trying to do anything much about it). Watch your back in US same as on Island. People are people. Some bad plantains in every bunch.

Well I have been away for about a week in Negril... which helped me remember why I came here in the first place.

However I had to come back to Kingston to get some stuff done before going back which means standing in a lot of lines. I'm now printing a complaint letter to the Tax Office... that's another long story.

I will post more of a response later when I have more time.

Amanda is one, one who braved the odds and attempted to live in Negril, then Kingston.
Very few here have done that.
Not that it needs to be done, but for the stick she got from some who saw her critique as being out of order, I say that she put her feet where many have shied and she put her mouth quite rightly on the peeves of living in a brusque enviroment compared to what is known by many who have moved away and decided to settle out of Jamaica.

Jamaica is Jamaica. Anyone who is planning to live there should not expect a photocopy of wherever they come from.

The weather is not the same, the pace is not the same, the people are not the same, the system is not the same.

Someone from abroad planning to live in Jamaica should do so with an open mind, take things as they come, and learn from it.

I would do anything to be living in Jamaica right now, if I could afford it. I would put up with long waiting lines, bad drivers, crime and violence, impolite people etc., etc., if I was financially able, because I love the "soon come" mentality, I love the neighbous who know what it is to be a neighbour, I would love the fact that my children are just children in a class, instead of the n****, I love the real friendliness that I experience from total strangers (attitude, attitude!), the helpfullness, etc.

The tourist board had an ad once: Jamaica is not only a beach, it's a country, and like in every other country it has its good and its bad side.

Sorry you had to go, but it seemed you didn't really fit in. I wish you all the best in your new start.

I was in Jamaica with my six years old daughter who is born abroad earlier this year, and she actually asked me if she could remain there, instead of returning. Made me cry.

Same with my 2 boys Yahdie, they want to go live in Jamaica ...land of MY birth...dem born a canada...but no place to dem like jamaica.
mi try fi bring dem down at least 2 a year...plus wi planning to move back soon, just have to organise wi selves.
