A nuff of we talk bout our love of jamaica, but for some funny reason, we talk about when the time is right, we will leave.. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img]
By the time u leave, things will have changed, as is the same with any community..
People who have expressed that things are not the same as some of us know it, and are ready to resume their live going back to Canada, or the US, get ridiculed because of this..
Others who have expressed that they live a foreign and have no intention of going back home to live (maybe for one reason or another..) get ridiculed seh dem no real lover of jamaica.
Do remember that all of us on the board are not legal, now, or at some time or other, and some of us who chose to stay here, have done so either thru *marriage* to stay, hiding,assuming different identities, or just plain old good time dipping and dodging....
Does that also say that they dont love jamaica, because they chose to do this..
We all know, even doe some of us in denial, that jamaica is not jamaica as how we know it..
things have changed. Society there has changed. Communities have changed..
thats the real reason, some of us here, and have started new lives here, and are experiencing better opportunities and nay leff..

Amanda, and to all others who have choosen to leave for one reason or other, thats *your* choice, and irregardless of one I think of my homeland, or anyone else think, only u and u alone, know what u felt and have gone thru..
I cant begin to even *understand* your levels of difficulties that u faced, because I mayself didnt walk in your shoes..
I just know that everybody's *toleralance* level is not the same, and I am not judging u or anybody for giving u life story of some of u conditions, and or stating that it was time to move on..

One of my pet peeves here, but I do speak up. Then I think, I should not have done that. Some day someone is going to get real mad at my mouth and do me harm.

When I speak up all they do is turn around and grin at me, like they still have a right to take cuts. One woman insisted she was before me, so after saying "Whatever", I gave up, but the cashier took me first leaving the woman who cut in to wait til they rang me up.

I don't know why Jamaicans do not speak up when people take cuts. I only see the delight in their faces when me, a foreigner gives it to the offender with both barrels (figuratively speaking. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]).

I'm sorry here about all that you have to faced when your return to the states, be strong. I also was concerned about the struggles you had while you leaved in Kinston. I'm planning on moving to JA in July 2006 (Mandeville) and after hearing ur experience and many other peoples experience and makes me want to re-consider. Finances is always the negative side of living in JA. My first visit there left a impression in my mind-that why aren't people friendly and why does a country suffer financially that is so beautiful. I can get over not having a friendly neighbor but I can not get around struggling financially.All the best and I hope everything works out for you and your family. yes, some of us leff because of hard times, some for a likkle visit, but I know I left to get a advanced/college education and just never returned..(my mom's words/reasons to us, as to why we leff, not mine)..
Yes, I could have *returned* after college, but I had no desire to, as I had already married, and set up roots/had my first born....
Visited a ja couple of times,(6 years after I leff) but many of my friends had already migrated to England and the US..so the place wasnt even the same. Hardly anybody to chat to.. crime wasnt so bad den dat u even did fearful. U coulda still feel free and ting, but the communities and the abiance had changed....

I dont think anyone is picking up for amanda, is just dat some of us are more *honest* in terms of the situations that is presently in jamaica. Amanda, went down there thinking things would be nice and peaceful and experieenced a lot of hard situations, that she herself couldnt adapt to..
Most of us who have lived there, have experienced it, so we know firsthand.
its just that when she came on, u got the sense of her being *wrong* for speaking out about her experiences. These are *her* experiences..not ours. We all have our own.
Nutten wrong with her being forthright..
but it just seems as if when anyone speaks out negatively about their expreinces or things in ja on a whole, some on this community act, as if she is so wrong..and she should shut up in essence..
I dont feel so and I commend her for being honest with herself..
I also commend those on the board, who are there...and honestly speak out about some of the things that are presently happening..to validate about what Amanda says as being the true experience of living in jamaica....
Now bear in mind, that not all the experiences will be the same in *all* the island. We know that some parts, as with any country is just plain ole nice, and some parts is just plain ole ruff..
and dat if u have wads of cash, and can be better off finanacially, that jamaica can be really, really nice..
and member seh inna ja enoh, fe get ahead, a noh wha u know (education wise) a *who* u know..
