what's wrong with being a heterosexual woman in Jamaica? that last sentence by TuffGong reeks of racism, to say the least. Do most of these posts come from the USA? They certainly echo things I've heard some Americans (and no-one else) say over the decades.

So someone couldn't take living in Jamaica. Well, a lot of people on this planet can't take living one place or another. The Jamaicans living around me right now don't have a problem with anyone not being able to handle life here - the most common thing I hear people say is "Life here not easy".

And just on the rudeness thing, yep, I've encountered rude in banks, shops etc in a host of different countries. One thing I've not encountered before is taxi drivers hassling for sex because they've not experienced a 'white girl' before and refusing to take no for an answer. That, imo, is extremely rude.

Local rudeness is getting a lot of attention in the media this year. Already there have been a number of articles in the papers on the growth of "bhutoo-ism".

Every man or Ooman should be able to decide when and where he or she wants to live. They should decide with whom they want to live with and just how they want to live, whilst overstanding the culture and mores of the locale they take residence in.

I would chalk it up to experience, the Rock is a hard nut to crack. Many including born-yah have tried, failed or have been failed by life on the Rock. I would not pay too much attention to the white-noise emanating from peanut gallery. You had the experience, you had the adventures, you have the bumps, the bruises and the T-Shirt to prove it.

rotfl. Neither did I, but I should have at least expected it. Many boards seem to have some American members whose attitude is foreigners need not have an opinion on anything. And too, there are the tourists who insist Jamaica is "theirs".

After seeing this yesterday, I was later visiting a Jamaican friend and some more people turned up for an impromptu birthday celebration, men and woman. Only one guy & I weren't drinking (both on medication) so the conversation started to turn rather risque. I asked what they thought about white women with Jamaican men. General opinion was they weren't bothered, one woman prefers men with money, that usually means white so she's not bothered who teams up with whom. Another with a sexy reputation has a few steady guys and says no-one, white or otherwise can take her men from her. The others weren't bothered either, they figure they can compete as well as anyone else, any colour.

The men were the same, one guy just laughed. The other said he has a Jamaican girlfriend and although he thinks I'm a nice person (and the white person he knows most) he's not interested in white girls.

One thing I did find out that unnerved me was, I asked about an ad on local tv. Before I finished describing it, the guy with the Jamaican girlfriend said, yes, that's how Jamaican men prefer sex. The party exploded. and everyone then had ribald comments to make. And wanted to know how Americans and others prefer sex if NOT that way. [img]/forums/images/graemlins/704555_dwl.gif[/img] But I told them at least now when people ask for sex I can say "No, mi nah do Jamaican style". That set everyone off again. Wild little street party it was.
