i dunno bout wielding more power and influence in daddy's shop. the corporate world is way more unforgiving of women than the political world i think. plus, she appears to have been infected with altruism, and politics is really a better way to get that out of your system.

historically members of parliment(in other countries) have crossed the parlimentary floor and have been taken very seriously...a notable example is Winston Churchill.

The simple fact remains that she wanted Harper's gig which is not going to happen anytime soon.
I give her credit for taking advantage of an opportunity.

However history will not hold her in the same esteem as Churchill.

I been reading this thread with mild intrest!!!!! Finally something interesting outta Kanada ??? Is there hope for Kanada.... well I tout teh beautiful Belinda for Prime Minister.... She stikes me as an oppertunist making the most of her assets and has played her hand pretty well. Her dumping a boyfirend a master stoke....... She obviously is attractive but attriveness is not all... She has held the Kanadianh public entralled... Not that it is difficult it seems.....

Yep in the UK it is not unusual for MP's to cross teh floor.... Just before the last election a Tory crossed to Labour... And has just been made a life peer... A Labour MP crossed to the Lib Dems....


As for her father covering up her failings and giving her power... Think Ford, Muerdoch Packer, Lord Black anotehr Kanadian, the Agnelli family in Italy, All have practiced Nepotism to retain power... That is expected. And when the time comes for me to save my daugther I hope my telephone book is filleld wit hthe names and telephone numbers of powerful people who will pull strings for me.. Guess I lived in Jamaica too long and seen this sort of thing too often....

LORNE, N.S. (CP) - His voice sinking to a raspy whisper, Peter MacKay said Wednesday his heart has been "a little banged up" by Belinda Stronach, his high-profile romantic partner and former caucus mate.

Speaking publicly for the first time since Stronach announced her defection to the ruling Liberals, the deputy Conservative leader said the events of the week have left him feeling betrayed. "It tries your soul," a subdued MacKay said as he sat by the turned soil of a potato patch on his father's farm in northern Nova Scotia.

"It was a blow. I didn't see it coming."

MacKay said he hadn't slept since learning after midnight Monday that Stronach, who he began seeing a few months ago, had quit the Conservatives to become a Liberal cabinet minister.

When asked if he had broken off his relationship with the Ontario MP and car-parts heiress, he said: "I haven't talked to her. That part of this is deeply hurtful and deeply personal. We'll see what happens."

MacKay's comments swung between gentle good wishes for Stronach and her children, to angry condemnation of her actions.

"Never turn your back on your friends and your family and your colleagues like this," he said. "It's not the way you conduct yourself in an honourable fashion, I don't think."

from what I have been hearing on the streets here a lot of people are happy with her decision to defect.

And it is not like she did it on the spur of a moment yesterday she been thinking about it and she actually had dinner with the PM and discussed it
she discussed it with her dad who was a liberal candidate in 1988.
It take gust to do what she did.
MacKay knew she was going defect before she did he eve told Stephen Harper about it before she had a chance to do it herself.

Have you listened to how she is getting thrased on some of the call in shows. Have you seen the press coverage?

Guts, no she is opportunistic and has no substance. How can you be running for the leadership of a political party and 1 1/2 later be defecting to the opposition.

Belinda is used to getting what she wants handed to her on a silver platter. What Belinda wants, Belinda gets. Must be nice.
