THE STUDENTS AND staff of the Edith Dalton James High School in Duhaney Park St. Andrew, are pleading with authorities for a perimeter fencing and police patrols to ensure their safety, which they said was constantly being threatened by gunmen and thieves.

The demands came in the wake of the shooting of a past student on the school grounds in May and the robbery of a teacher at gun point last Wednesday. Vice Principal Audrey Seivwright said the school also needs a new 10-11 grade block, because the current one is too far away from the rest of the school buildings.

"We have been using the teachers' flat for classes and they are a good distance away from the rest of the student population. This is putting the students' and teachers' lives in danger because things can happen to them when they are out there and that is what happened on Wednesday," Seivwright told THE STAR.

Seivwright said last Wednesday's robbery occurred on that block. She said two gunmen stole the teacher's wedding band, car and other pieces of jewellery.

The teacher has since been sent on two weeks leave and a student who witnessed the attack is being counselled.

One student told THE STAR the attacks have made them afraid to attend school. "We are traumatised by what has happened. I am scared because anything can happen, we need security and they should prevent unauthorised persons from coming onto the compound," Kimolyn Cole, a fourth form student, said.

Dave Lemonious, another forth former, said the problem was in need of urgent attention. "I am upset because this has been happening since (I've been in) seventh grade and we need to make the community and Jamaica know what is happening," he said.

Although the school is a part of the safe schools programme and have two security guards who man the school gate, the safety issues persist.

In an effort to resolve the issues the Ministry of Education and some members of the school's board met yesterday and it was decided that the school grounds would be fenced and two security guards assigned to the grounds.

A 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL underwent a night of horror in April when she was forced to perform oral sex on two men who also had anal sex with her.

The complainant who was abducted on April 25 was rescued by the police the following day.

Since then, Delgado Davy and Gadiel Sinclair, both of Kingston 20 addresses, have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. Both were remanded in custody when they appeared before Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle, yesterday.

The men who are charged with abduction, buggery and rape also appeared in court on Thursday.

Reports are that Davy and Sinclair were charged after it is alleged that they were found in a house with the complainant.

Court files indicate that on April 26, the complainant was reported missing to the Duhaney Park Police station. At 11:50 p.m. on the same day, the police was called to an address in the Kingston 20 area where the girl was reportedly found in the house with both accused.

Sinclair was allegedly found on top of the girl at the time of the visit.

Court documents further reported that the complainant had been held-up at gunpoint and abducted by a man whom she had seen before.

He reportedly brought her to the address where she was found and sexually assaulted her. He was later joined by Davy and Sinclair. Allegations are that they repeatedly had anal as well as vaginal sex with her. She was also forced to perform oral sex on the men.

After reading the allegations on Thursday, Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle, set yesterday's date for the matter to be mentioned. They were again remanded, yesterday, for today's mentioning date.
